TST Retro Space Hopper
Advantages: Fun, durable
Disadvantages: Bit pricey
I am a child from the 80's but was never lucky enough to own one of these space hoppers and had to play on my best friends instead which was loads of fun. When it came to my daughter's birthday this year we were hiring a pony so to keep the children amused whilst others were riding the pony we wanted some activities, we set up a couple of bouncy castles and I bought a 2 of these space hoppers to set up races.
The space hoppers come in a variety of colours and designs making them more interesting such as a Union Jack design however I bought them in orange as that is just how they were when I was little. The space hopper has a pretty goofy face drawn on the front of it in black and then there are two long pieces sticking up like antennae which your child holds onto whilst they bounce.
To blow up the space hopper we use the same device as we use to blow up our bouncy castle, there is a small hole behind the antennae on the space hopper and there is a little circle of plastic to pull out to inflate it. The plastic is quite difficult to pull free if you don't have nails but luckily I do. The space hopper only takes about a minute to inflate and then it's ready for play which is great as it meant we could get to the community centre before we had to inflate them.
Even though we haven't had these very long they have had a good battering already especially as there were 20 children all trying to bounce up and down on them and mostly not one at a time! The rubber is really thick so I would expect that these will last a lot of years and due to their durability we have found that leaving them out in the garden doesn't create any problems.
The space hopper is loads of fun and both my girls love playing on them as did the children at the party, the space hoppers are easy for my eldest daughter to play on as she is 6 years old but poor Emily who is not quite 3 yet can't play on it herself and has to be lifted onto it and bounced around the garden which she finds hilarious.
Deflating the space hopper is pretty easy, simply pull out the plastic piece and then push down on the space hopper and the air comes out, it doesn't take long to deflate and I think it would probably deflate on its own accord if left long enough.
These are great toys for young and old and makes me think of other toys from my childhood I would like to see come back! The girls both love these so I know they were a great buy.
Summary: Great fun
