“ Brand: Universal Cycles / Type: Toy Ride-ons „
My cars scooter I am reviewing differs a little from the above but only in cosmetic appearance .We brought this for my little boy last Christmas 2010 when he was 3 the age recommendation is for 3 -4years plus and he absolutely loves cars not as much as Thomas but a very close second and as it was on offer at Tesco for the small price of £5 we decided to purchase it for him. This usually retails at around £15 and for a character scooter in our experience is rather cheap I do love a bargain!
This scooter does require a little assembly but compared to others we have had it is rather minimal it is a case of adding the wheels and main frame together is very simple and takes all of 5 minutes most I was able to do it unable and I am usually useless so that proves how easy it really is. We got a peppa pig scooter at the same time that required all the stickers to be added but these stickers on this scooter are pre added which I think is good as after a year of use all stickers still remain intact without any peeling or scratching.
It is a 3 wheel tri scooter meaning it gives little one a little more balance with 2 wheels at the back and 1 at the front and it has a rather wide foot plate so they can stand and push very easily with room to move which is good. The whole frame is made form metal and plastic and so very durable which it needs to be for young children to use as it does get bashed and dropped a lot. It has been used inside and out and has a few scratches to the paint work but it has not weathered and overall the scooter is in extremely good condition.
On the front of the scooter is a basket which my son loves to put his favourite toy in there to ride along in the scooter with him. It has a picture on the front of it of lightning McQueen so you can see instantly that that it is a character scooter and as it is one of my son's favourites it was a big hit. It is attached with a bolt meaning it is very sturdy does not move and could not easily break off which is great with a toddler that just drops this scooter without a second of warning.
The wheels are plastic and transparent which actually goes really nice with the bright red scooter there is a black base underneath the see through part of the wheels and all the other colours mix really well and my son like to tell me they have black wheels just like lightning McQueen. After a year of use there is very little wear on them you can see it has been used very easily but nothing that stands out to much and they are still in full working order. The wheels glide easily so little one can give themselves big pushes and the scooter will go far enough.
My downside to this scooter is actually a really important one. The age recommendation says for 3-4 years which in itself is a short time for a child's toy but that did not matter much as I brought it so cheap. The problem is when you assemble the scooter it is tiny so very small. My daughter got a peppa pig scooter and it is actually half the size of that. My little boy can still ride it but he looks silly on it and has the bend down to reach the handles. It was my own fault for not checking the measurements but I do not know what 3 year old they expect to ride this as my boy is not particularly small for his age. To give you an idea how small it is my 18 month old son now has this scooter and he fits perfectly on it the handles are the right size for him and in all proportions it fits him much better.
This scooter is lovely it is very well made and has lasted very well but I think they need to re think either the sizing or the age recommendation as we were disappointed with the sizes and a year is a short period of time but I found my son was too big from the start and my youngest boy was actually more suited to it.
My son had owned a Thomas the tank engine Scooter when young and after the wheel broke I bought him one of the silver scooters but he struggled with it and kept falling off and actually played on his scooter far less since he had a more grown up version. I had been thinking that he needed to be taken a step back which can be quite difficult to do when your four year old little boy wants to be like the big boys. We spotted on a car boot a Disney Cars scooter for £2. As he has been into Cars he immediately fell in love with it. I do not believe in buying toys simply for their branding as you can go round in circles updating with their latest fad but this seemed an ideal way to take that step backwards that my son needed.
The scooter itself is red in the colours of lightning McQueen. It is a sturdy three wheel design which makes it much harder to fall off. It has adjustable handle bars and the casing for adjusting the bike is covered under a black casing which does prevent rusting. It does have a front plate which simply clips onto the front.
My son the minute he got on it was off like a shot. He was balanced and scooted around the hall the car boot was been held in. I knew I had definitely made the right purchase. My son has owned this scooter second hand for six months now. He has used it mainly on the garden path but will take it to the park and round the street. The foot plate is quite large and quite adequately accommodates two feet. My son will also sit on the scooter and glide down the garden path, while this activity is not recommended it does demonstrate how large the foot plate is. The wheels are also quite large and this makes the scooter very sturdy.
The front plate does easily clip off while it may be useful for a boys toy it isn't the greatest design as we have lost the front plate of my son's as he would take it off on multiple occasions so ended up getting lost somewhere.
It doesn't fold up like the silver scooters however as it isn't huge it does easily fit into the boot of the car.
The scooter has not really had much care taken of it and it has been left out in the garden in all weathers. There is no noticeable fading but the transfer on the foot plate has started flaking over the last couple of weeks. Considering this is a second hand scooter it is in excelled condition.
My son still does own the older scooter and although his ability to balance and scoot on this scooter however he still does actually prefer to ride his Cars scooter.
The scooter is designed for children aged three to five years old and this seems to be a good recommendation.
This scooter is available on Amazon for £31.49 with £5.46 postage and packaging .It is also available at Toys r us for £34.99. It may well be worth shopping around though for a cheaper price.
This is a toy that has given hours of pleasure and helped build up leg strength, develop balance all in a fun method without my son's knowledge he was doing anything other than playing. I do think this is a great scooter. Although you will be very lucky if you get it for the same price as I did, I still think that at full price it is a great buy and do recommend this scooter
We bought this for our sons Christmas when he was 3 and a half and just know he would be delighted as he was a huge Disney Cars fan.
When it arrived it was in a lovely big box with a handle on top, which incidentally we have kept for him to keep all this Cars toys in, and when we opened it. It looked very easy to put together and the instructuins were clearly written and had very precise detailed illustrations.
Within 10 minutes the whole thing was put together. The only issue we had was that you need a hammer to put the wheels on and when Santa is trying to do these things at night it he has to go outside.
Once it is together it is a really sturdy well built Scooter. The handle bars are easily adjustable, perfect for a 3 or 5 year old alike, and the footplate which has the lightning character on it is wide enough to have 2 feet side by side to start with. The tyres are made of really good quality foam and 2 years later they are still in quite good condition. The handles have rubber coating so it is soft for little ones hands and it is really well balances with the 3 wide wheels.
There is a plaque on the front with Lightning McQueen on it which easily pops on and off - unfortunately too easily and we lost ours at some point last year. This doesnt affect the way the Scooter works.
I have to say that these are very common at our nursery and we have had to stick some stickers on it so we know it is ours.
My son practically lived on this last summer and has just recently progressed to a 2 wheeled micro scooter but still plays on this one in the garden.
After 2 years this still works perfectly and has been really well used. I would highly recommend this to any little boy looking for his first set of wheels.
Zoom around like Lightening McQueen from the Disney Pixar Cars film on this colourful scooter. Suitable for ages 3-5 years old.
