Vivid Imaginations Fifi - Fun Skates
I bought my 5 year Old Daughter a pair of these last Christmas in the hope that she may be able to learn to skate as I couldn't as a child and felt that I had missed out when all of my friends were skating along and I was running along beside them.
I think that I purchaced them from either B&M or Wilkinsons and they came in a net bag with a FIFI Helmet, Shinpads and Elbowpads for about 19.99.
The Skates themself are blue, pink and green/yellow toughened plastic with a picture of FIFI on the toe area and the FIFI brand name on the heel.
There are 4 chunky light blue wheels with green/yellow "wheel-trims" and a round green/yellow toe stoppers on the base at the front. The strap is made up of blue plastic with a green/yellow buckle that can be adjusted depending on the ankle size and does not need fastining due to the shape of the strap which has a sort of zig-zag raise along it which catches underneath the edge of the buckle keeping it in place.
The skates themselves are pink and separate in the middle to allow adjusting depending on show size.
They adjust by separating or closing together the middle of the skate to the desired size and then turning the "bolt" underneath to tighten them up and keep them to size.
The skates are designed to be worn when the child is wearing the shoe, which my 5 year old did not know at first and resulted in having sore feet due to the sole digging in!
They are advertised to fit shoe size 5-11 but my child is still wearing them now and she is a size 13.
The only problems that I found with this product was that they were rather stiff and seemed to stutter along as opposed to glide and for this reason I was rather reluctant to let her play with them outside on her own - i.e in our back yard. Because of this I felt that they didn't really do her much good as due to this flaw she had to constantly hold my hand
when wearing them outside so she wasn't really learning to skate on her own.
As a 5 year old she still found them hard to use so for that reason, in my opinion I think that they would be unsuitable for a 3 year old which is the age specification given to them.
Overall though a good product for the price which I paid also because the extras came with them and to get a better skate I can just go and purchace a different pair and use the helmet and pads with them if I desire to do that.
They can be purchaced in a wide variety of places on the high street including Tescos and Argos and also online at Amazon amongst other places. They all sell a wide range of characters in a similar skate to suit the childs preference.
In my opinion not worth going out of your way to buy.
I bought my daughter a pair of these fifi and the flowertots skates for her fourth birthday. They were quite cheap about ten pounds which im quite glad of now. They are the type of skate that goes directly over the shoes and the size can be adjusted up to about shoe size 11. There is a thick strap that fastens around the ankle to keep the skate in place. My daughter was really excited about receiving these as she had wanted a pair for ages. However when she tried them out doors for the first time we were both abit dissapointed. They do not glide along like normal skates and seem to get stuck on the slightest bit of uneven ground. My daughter finds them very hard to use dispite several attempts. I found that she is practically walking in them because the wheels are so stiff. Overall they are not very good and i wouldnt reccomend buying a pair for your child.
I bought these skates for my daughter last week. I was dubious at buying them as I didn't think there would be any way she would be able to use them but the box advised age 3+ and they were also on sale for £6.50 so I thought, why not.
Fifi definitely isn't a favourite character of my daughters but these ones were the only ones they had available. The design was very nice as the skates are bright pink in colour and have pictures of fifi on the front. There is a chunky blue strap on the front with a big green buckle, making it easy to adjust the skates to fit over and secure the child's foot. The wheels are also quite chunky they are blue with inner green circles. The skates have 4 wheels as well as a green stopper on the front for extra safety.
The skates must be worn with shoes and fit sizes from 5-11. Underneath the skate there is a bolt, this can be turned very easily to make the skate bigger or smaller (it is easier to test the size by putting the child's UN-won shoe in the skate to measure them before the child puts them on). Once you have chosen the correct size then the skate can be tightened and it is ready to use.
The skates are made from a very durable plastic although they are quite light to lift and to skate on.
I found the skates to be very easy to size and I loved the design of them. I couldn't wait for my daughter to try them on and do some moves. My daughter is 3 months over 3 years so she qualified for the age range perfectly plus she is great on her feet so perfect I thought. Unfortunately 5 minutes later she was on her bottom. As I stood her up again the same thing was about to happen. I ended up holding my daughter as she struggled to skate around the living room until she eventually gave up defeated.
I think 3 years is too small of an age range for these I do believe practice makes perfect and who knows maybe over the next few months my daughter will be using them with ease but looking at her now im not too sure.
As I mentioned before I picked these up a week ago from mother care and they were priced at £6.50 in the sale. To buy them usually it will cost around £9.50. You can also get characters such as Disney princess or Dora the explorer for girls and in the night garden for boys. I had originally wanted the Dora ones but these weren't available at the time.
I was very impressed with the skate but realistically I think parents will buy these hoping of a miracle that there 3 year old will love them. I think the age range should definitely change for these to maybe 4 years. Some children may pick this up at 3 and use them no problem but I think the majority will have more injuries than anything else. I would definitely recommend these to parents with a child 4 or above.
Have great fun with Fifi's Adjustable skates. Fifi Skates fit childrens shoe size 5-11. For ages 3 & over
