Advantages: Can take anywhere, instant sun protection.

Disadvantages: Can't fold the flipping thing back up.

I bought this pop up sunsafe tent earlier in the year and after this week of stunning weather have been very pleased that I did. The tent I have bought is a different colour to the one above but otherwise looks the same, I found it in T K Maxx late spring time for a bargain price of £10.

The purpose of this tent, as well as being a fun garden/beach/park toy is to protect the skin from the sun by the means of a sun factor built into the fabric of the tent (factor 50). It is a similar idea to the sun suits that babies can wear to cover up which also have factor 50 protection built in.

The tent comes in a small circular bag with a strap which makes it easy to carry over your shoulder. The bag is the same bright primary colours as the tent which I bought.

When you take the tent out of the bag it pops up easily, you don't really have to do anything more than giving it a quick shake. It has 4 sides, one of which has a ventilation area which can be covered or uncovered depending on how hot it gets in the tent. The inside has a covered floor and an additional piece which can be used as a door or an "entrance" ground mat.

On the four bottom corners of the tent are peg holes (pegs are provided) to secure to the ground and there are also 4 pockets for filling with sand if you are at the beach and cannot use pegs.

Thet tent will hold 2 small toddlers at the most (or one baby and lots of toys.)

There are a few downsides with this tent. Firstly, it can get very hot inside even with ventilation flap open, so the child cannot use it for too long. Also, if you have a smaller child who is crawling (as I do) they will crawl out before too long anyway. The latter isn't really a fault of the product, just something to bear in mind.

The only major product fault in my opinion is that it is very tricky to fold back upto the compact circular shape it started as. I have resigned to the fact that I can only get it to a strange triangular shape which will fit into the bag but sticks out of the top!

Overall a good value and quality product, which could also be used indoors after the summer.

Summary: Sun Safe Fun

I've used folding tents a few times, you just have to study the ways the frame bends and you get the hang of folding it up. If it's the same as mine, what you do is hold the top and bottom of the sides together, then bring the 2 sides together, fold the frame down so you kind of have a figure 8 shape and then slide then into a circle.

We've got a similar but larger one, and there's a definite knack to folding it! My husband has managed to fold it successfully once (out of goodness knows how many tries) and is hoping he can manage to repeat the technique when we actually take it to the beach!
