The house we live in isn't very big and now I am expecting our first child we have been having a little bit of a change round, one of the things we have done is buy a small desk for our computer and printer. With both Mark and myself doing home courses we thought it would be somewhere to keep text books as well. The desk is only small and to maximise the space we bought a Targus Universal Monitor Stand.

The monitor stand is black and silver/grey in colour and seems very sturdy. It does need assembling when you get it and to be honest I felt this was Marks department. You don't need any tools for the job and he had it put together in less than ten minuets, as there was no swearing I feel I can confidently say it was easy to assemble. It also comes with four little rubber stoppers, these stop it from sliding around your desk.

The monitor stand is 37cm's wide, 48cm;s deep and 9cm's high with the option of raising it up an extra 5cm's if you choose, it will hold weight of up to 40kg. The nice thing about this monitor stand is not just the fact that it will raise your screen to a nice eye level eliminating an aching back, neck and shoulders, something I suffer from quite badly, and also free up valuable space on our desk top but it also has a little slide out tray underneath which can be used for a laptop or just about anything you choose, spare paper, pens anything. This is a really handy feature for us as our desk isn't very big and space is of a premium.

If you keep a laptop on the tray the open design of the monitor stand means there's no problems getting to USB ports or CD ROM drives, everything is accessible.

We bought our Targus Universal Monitor Stand from Amazon for the sum of £19.99 and we are really pleased with it, so pleased in fact that we have bought another one for our TV in the bedroom. We have stood the TV on the stand and popped the DVD player underneath on the little sliding tray, its ideal and once again a great space saver. We only have a little mini DVD player so it fits perfectly.

I would certainly recommend the Targus Monitor Stand, its a neat little unit that has given us some much needed desk space both downstairs and in our bedroom. Its also made a big difference to my aching neck and shoulders. I find I can sit and work at the computer for much longer than before. The unit is sturdy and was easy to assemble. This little gadget is ideal for both homes and offices and can be used for smaller TV's too. Its a great little space saver that was worth every penny.
