Being a lover of cooking and trying different dishes all the time the one really important part of my kitchen set up is my oven, I recently bought a new one to replace my free standing oven. I choose the AEG as it was perfectly matching to my kitchen being built in and chrome it really matches the rest of my kitchen perfectly. I paid £259.00 for the oven and a further £115.00 for the gas hob but this review is based purely on the oven part of the package. The entire package does look great in a fitted kitchen.

**INSIDE**


I have always stuck to electric ovens and the AEG is no different it has a back element that heats the oven and a fan that circulates the heat around the oven to give even cooking especially good when using more than one shelf in the oven for cooking. The inside consists of three different levels which are changed by sliding out the grill tray and moving it onto the relevant shelf, the second tray is a wire one which gives you two levels to cook on. The trays slide into a double bracket and are held in by a lift and slide mechanism preventing the trays sliding out on you whilst pulling them out.


On a down side the inside of the oven is not self cleaning so lots of elbow grease and Mr Muscle are required to clean it as there is no self cleaning feature. I tend to clean it after every couple of uses which helps to prevent a real build up of grease and grime therefore making cleaning much simpler. The element has so far been operating for 5 months with no problems and is run off of a 13 amp plug and does not require direct wiring to the mains unlike some ovens which need it and can’t be run off of a plug.

**OUTSIDE**


Moving from the inside to the outside of the oven it has a very clear double glazed window on the door which is ideal for keeping an eye on the food without having to open the door, perfect when cooking cakes etc which need to be kept in the heat to help them rise. When it comes to cleaning the glass window it is simply removed by unscrewing two screws and taking the glass sheet out for a scrub. Bear in mind when cleaning the glass you need to use a soft cloth to prevent scratching of the glass.


Next up is the controls you have self explanatory knobs which control temperature and setting, the settings include defrost, oven, grill, double grill and the temperature settings are as standard on all ovens and measured in degrees. There is a great programmable timer which has a digital display counting down the time to finish and warning bell when your food is ready. The knobs are removable for easy cleaning and the digital display is glass so simply wipe to clean.


The oven on the outside is very nice and stylish in a chrome finish but also available in white. Although the chrome looks great it is very hard to clean and shows up finger prints a lot. I have over come this problem by using a small amount of vegetable oil when cleaning which really does work thank you to the member who told me to try this. The oil removes all marks very easily leaves a perfect finish and prevents dirt sticking to the exterior of the oven.

INSTRUCTIONS + RECOMMEND

The AEG does come with instructions and a cooking guide for checking when cooking certain food types and ideal when working out cooking times for joints of meat. The instructions for set up are simple to follow and very detailed when it comes to the settings for cooking. I have been very happy with this oven since purchasing it and would recommend to anybody who is looking to buy one in the future, that’s for taking the time to read my reviews.
