The best thing I can say about this cooker is that it's cheap! The best advice I can give anyone is to avoid it unless they have absolutely no other choice whatsoever.

I'm probably being a bit ungrateful because my sister actually bought this for me when I moved into my latest house, and it seems rude to moan about a present. But honestly I curse everytime I have to use it.

Firstly the hotplates; now electric hotplates will never beat gas, even the rapid cool ceramic and halogen, because they cannot compete with the speed of gas. But these are the old fashioned, take 15 mins to heat up and 3 hours to cool down type, which take some getting used to. I have the cooker a while now so I know just about how long to leave it before turning it down, but even so with any milky substances it's a nightmare.

So from there to the oven itself, well as you can see from the picture there's only one oven, never a good thing but a lot of cookers are built this way. And the grill is in the oven, also a pain in the butt because if for example you fancy gammon and chips, you either have to fry your chips or gammon, because you can't grill the gammon and cook the oven chips at the same time.

It only comes with one oven shelf as well, which makes me wonder if the man who designed it has ever cooked anything in his life, what use is one shelf? Luckily my local neighbourhood repair man had a selection of shelves from old cookers and we found one to fit, because there's no way you'd be able to cook a sunday roast using just one shelf, unless you left half of your food to go cold whilst you were cooking the rest.

It has a couple of settings for the oven, you can use with the top elements only, the bottom elements only or both elements together. I've found that unless you use both you have to add so much extra cooking time it's not economically viable to use just the one.

My biggest moan is the cleaning though, the glass in the door isn't properly sealed, so when you use anything like Mr Muscle on it, it drips down inbetween the two glass panes. So then you need to mess around removing the inner pane, so you can wipe the inner side of the outer pain. Okay if you have dishwasher that fits the door and glass in (oh how I hark back to the days of my trusty dishwasher!!), but I can't clean glass without streaking to save my life, so it's permanently streaked.

There are much better ovens out there, it's worth paying the little bit extra to get one.

Summary: Avoid at all costs.

You've put me well and truly off this oven. Congratulations!

Well covered here. I know exactly what you mean - the metal rubberised rings are a pain to heat up and it makes you wonder why you have an expensive electric bill if you have to use the rings.

These days I'm beginning to see the popularity of combination microwave ovens however even if they are a tad expensive!
