Advantages: Cheap to run, easy to use, produces perfect results every time

Disadvantages: None, really, apart from the price of the accessories

I have had the Standard Remoska for about three weeks now and would not be without it. My main oven is becoming almost redundant because the Remoska can cook anything that you would normally put in the main oven, under the grill or in the frying pan. The only thing it won't do is boil.

It is basically a round pan which sits in a stand; the element is in the lid so all you do is place the food in the pan, put the lid on, switch it on and leave it to cook in the same way and for the same amount of time you would use your main oven or grill. It is not much heavier than a normal largish saucepan; the lid is the heaviest part. It is not a slow cooker so will not speed up your cooking but it produces great results. It is a very well engineered, well-crafted but simple design using excellent materials and, since I have purchased mine, I have barely used my main oven so saving on energy costs which, these days, are going through the roof. I can't praise it highly enough!

The Baby Remoska is ideal for a single person, the Standard just right for 2-4 people but, for a larger family, the Grand is the best bet.

The gadget (each one is individually made because there is no factory) uses very little power; this was the main reason I wanted one - to help me keep the energy costs down in these days of rising prices. The Remoska comes with its own basic recipe booklet but there is a proper cookbook which can be purchased from Lakeland. There is also a very good website which has tips, advice and Remoska recipes available. You can find this when you log on to Lakeland's own site.

Lakeland is the only retailer to sell the Remoska and the price varies from £49.99 for the Baby, £79.99 for the Standard and £99.99 for the Grand; these prices may seem high but I find I use mine almost every day, sometimes more than once, and I am sure it will pay for itself in reduced energy costs in no time. Lakeland also sell accessories to go with it but I am managing without for the time being.

Besides producing perfect results with anything from cakes and bread, to risotto, Shepherd's Pie, rice pudding and roast chicken, it is a doddle to clean because you only need to wash the main pan which has a high quality non-stick interior. The outside just needs a quick wipe over with a damp cloth. This is a real bonus when you consider how much we all hate cleaning a main oven.

All in all, this is one of those gadgets that won't end up in the back of a cupboard and I thoroughly recommend it.

Much better update - now that I know its a slow cooker makes all the difference and this will also benefit others in the market who have heard or read your review about the Remoska.

How does it work though? Is it very heavy or lightweight?
