Member Name: January
Advantages: good pain relief
Disadvantages: not for babies under two months old
I buy bonjela for myself if I get a mouth ulcer as it stops the pain and numbs it for a while as there's nothing worse than a mouth ulcer thats irritaing you. You can buy bonjela from the supermarket on the baby aisle or if like me you like to save money you can buy it from Savers shops or from Superdrug . I pay £1 at my local Savers shop and get a tube of 15g of clear bonjela gel.
It is a thick consistancy and this makes it easy to get it right onto the mouth ulcer as it's thick and settles on the mouth ulcercovering and soothing it almost straight away.
I also use this on my grandson too when he is teething and it takes away the pain for him , so there is usually a tube of bonjela hanging around my house for both me and him.
The tube is blue like the box and has a white top, it's sugar free and can be used on children over two months old, keep it out of reeach of teething children as they might bite through the tube.
It consists of lidocaine hydrochloride and cetalkonium chloride. These numb and sooth the pain of teething or mouth ulcers away, the effects last around an hour or longer depending on the size of the mouth ulcer, but it's enough for instant relief from the pain.
It says don't use more than every three hours but to be honest I have used it as soon as it has worn off and the pain of the mouth ulcer gets to me again.
Then having said that I am always careful when giving gels, tablets and medicines to children and always stick to the recommended dosage.
You can fold the tube down as it gets empty at the bottom as this pushes the gel to the front of the tube for easy applying.
Pierce the tube, apply with a clean finger and repeat every three hours if needed.
All in all its a good pain relief.
Summary: works on mouth ulcers and for teething babies
