I suffer with back pain due to an underlying health issue and have flare ups of pain sporadically. My mum bought me some Ibuleve 5% gel from our local chemist, a 30g tube was £3.49. The gel comes in a thin metal tube, with a plastic lid, which you use to pierce the tube on first use.
The gel is designed to provide fast and effective pain relief directly at the source of pain and can help with pain stemming from back ache, rheumatic pain, arthritis and other aches and pains a body can afflict you with.
The gel is clear and fragrance free, has a cooling effect on the skin and is not greasy.
To use you apply 2-5cm of the gel directly to the area in pain, wash your hands and then hope it works, it cannot be used if you are under 12 years of age and it is always recommended that you read the label and list of ingredients to make sure you are using the gel safely.
The pain I get is sciatic, and this then leaves me with muscle pain from moving around in a crooked way, so the top of my back hurts and the pain runs all the way down to my tail bone. This 30g tube did not last long and I was a bit paranoid about how much to use, as the packet says 2-5cms but that would not cover my whole back, so I used a little more. I found that the pain eased a little and I felt less stiff and uncomfortable, the effect lasted for around 2 hours and then the pain returned to normal. This was disappointing as I was hoping it would last longer. I have also used it on my wrists that cause me pain resulting from hypermobility and it tends to last longer.
Overall I would not recommend this gel. I have returned to my tried and tested form of pain relief that is consists of pain killers take by mouth and lots of Tiger Balm or long hot baths and rest where possible. Also the gel is expensive and does not last very long if you have a large area of the body that needs treating; overall disappointing.
I often suffer from back and shoulder pain and sometimes find that this is the only thing that will really help. I've been using it for years now and find it to be very reliable.
Last time I bought it it was just over £10 for a 100gram tube. It has been worth every penny. It seems like a lot of money when you compare it to how cheaply you can buy a packet of ibuprofen for but this is very effective so is worth it.
It comes in a tube which you have to pierce the lid of first with the sharp bit inside the cap. To use it you apply it to the area on your body which is aching and gently massage it in. It is a clear gel and it smells slightly medicinal but nothing really strong, it lingers slightly afterwards but it's only subtle. It is really important to wash your hands after using it. What I find is that it's best to keep your clothing off for a while, when I put this on my shoulders or back I make sure I lie still for a good 10 minutes afterwards and then put my top back on. If i put it back on any sooner my clothes tend to stick to it and it's not a very nice feeling.
This works as an anti-inflammatory pain killer and gets through your skin to the point of pain. I tend to use this for my shoulders and back as I have said and I find that it helps to relieve the aches I have. Sometimes my shoulders have quite a burning pain and this helps to take that away. It usually is effective after about 20 minutes. I reapply it twice a day when I'm having a bad day.
It is important to make sure you read the label as this does contain Ibuprofen and some people can be allergic to this.
I personally find this to be very helpful in relieving my pain and have been using it for a good many years now and it's very reliable.
