Advantages: its great fun trying out new foods!

Disadvantages: messy and sometimes you run out of ideas

I think most health visitors now tell new mums not to start weaning their babies until they are 5 months old, well that went right out of the window with both my 2 and I started weaning both from about 10 weeks as they were always starving!

I started off with baby rice and progressed from there to simple fruits pureed like banana and avocado, cooked apple, and pureed veg.

Bothe my kids rarely had bought baby foods, mainly cos I think they are a waste of money, I used to just cook a bit of extra veg that we would be having with out meals and then puree some down and freeze it so I would always have something in the freezer.

After a few weeks of pureed mush, you can start introducing lumps like rice pudding, that kind of thing, just watch your baby carefully so they don't choke, its all great fun, especially when they want to start feeding themselves and end up wearing most of it!!

Summary: its great fun but just go by your baby and ignore the HV

I think 10 weeks is too young, they do sometimes go through growth spurts where they need LOTS of milk.
