Advantages: Watching your baby have fun because they are trying out something new

Disadvantages: none

Being a first time mum I wanted to do everything right for my son , the health visitor said not to wean until he was 6 months old but at 4 months he was starving . So I decided to start giving him some baby rice , just a couple of spoonfuls , my son loved his rice and each day he would want more and more. From there we tried banana delight which turned into his favourite.

I tried the boxes of baby food ranging from porridge, rice, and some of the savoury meals but I could never get the consistency right so I gave up on them!

I decided that I didn`t want my son eating jars of food day in day out so I looked on the internet for ideas and I also bought a book by Annabel Karmel called New Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner. This is a very good book with tons of easy recipes!

I used to make sweet potato and carrots - just peel and slice the sweet potato and carrots add to boiling water then when they are soft mash together with a little bit of the babies milk.

A good tip is just try your baby with one new food at a time , let his/her taste buds get used to the flavour so if they spit it out the first time , try again the following day and eventually they will start to like the new flavours

Health visitors can be useful but YOU will know when you baby is ready for weaning , don`t feel guilty and don`t let them make you feel guilty if you cant wait until they are 6 months old after all a lot of us must have been weaned at 3 or 4 months? did it do us any harm?

Summary: Weaning is stressful , messy and fun!
