Advantages: baby gets nutrion and a variety of taste
Disadvantages: can be quite messy
In the first six months of a babies life they only need their formula milk.
When six months has arrived babies are usually ready to start solid food.
This is when i started introducing food to my baby and the timing was perfect.
The baby will still need the formula milk to get all the key nutrients which they need.
It is best to introduce food to the baby gradually so that they can get used to different tastes and textures.
I introduced a variety of foods to my baby so that i knew he was getting a balanced diet.
I found that my baby would eat anything that was given to him as it was all something new for him to enjoy.
Each child is different however i could tell that my baby was ready for food as he wasnt satisfied with his bottles and was constantly wanting to chew on things.
I found that it was best to feed my baby when he was relaxed and i had plenty of time to spare.
It definately takes quite a while when your baby starts feeding and they have to be in some sort of control. you have to go at their pace.
Foods which i tried first were mashed potatoes and mashed vegetables as these can be digested easy and are good for the baby.
I also gave him mashed pear and apple which was one of his favourites.
Istarted off by just giving him small ammounts just a couple of spoonfuls so that he could get used to it.
Once i felt that he was comfortable with what he was having i increased it.
I just used the foods that we were eating as i know exactly what he is having and he is eating practically the same as the rest of the family so he will get used to this food.
In my opinion it is also cheaper than the baby jars which you can buy in supermarkets.
Once he was used to the mashed potato fruit and vegetables i stated adding bits of meat to the food and put in a blender so that it was nice and smooth.
in my opinion its best to give babies a wide variety of foods so that you get to know what they do and dont like.
I also give him a little bit of yoghurt which he loves especially the stawberry flavour.
luckily i dont have a fussy baby and he will eat whatever is given too him.
In my opinion its best to avoid giving your baby sweet tings to start off with as this could encourage them to want sweet things all the time. they could develop a sweet tooth.
Although my baby is not fussy with his food he definately is with his drinks.
I give him a drink at meal times and have tried every drink going however he has only took to one which is cow and gate summer fruits.
it seems to be really popular with him.
In my opinion you can only get to what your child likes eating by trial and error.
I also tried quite a few cereals before i found the one my baby likes he is now stuck on heinz organic baby porridge which is not a bad thing as it is really good for him.
i also began to try my baby with finger foods at around 8 months when he was used to proper food
i gave him things that would be easy to eat including soft peices of fruit bannanas and melon. small pieces of toast which im sure he found more fun than tasty he can sit there just chewing for ages with a big smile on his face.
i also tried bits of cheese which again he is a big fan of.
When beggining to feed your baby you have to be patient and remember that its a whole new experience for them and that it will take time to get to know what they enjoy.
Can be quite messy but its not worth worrying about as the baby will definately end up covered in food when they first start eating my little boy seems to find it hilarious that he can put his hand in his food bowl. you just have to persevere with the baby they get there in the end
Summary: variety of different foods and tastes is best for the baby.
