Introduction to weaning and preparing homemade baby food My main aim of this review is to pass on some of the knowledge of weaning that I have acquired since becoming a parent of 2. I was confused as a first time mum. I relied heavily on baby food packets and jars. If I had known then what I know now I’d have saved ... Read the complete review

Like most parents I want to give my children the most possible diet, after all we are what we eat. When I was pregnant with my first child I knew I wanted to breast-feed. However he was born very early (see my review on born too soon) and breast-feeding was a real struggle. However I did manage to keep it going and am really pleased I did. ... Read the complete review

What to feed your baby? Aarh interesting thought - Food. But hold on there's loads out there, tins, packets, jars, plus the purists will be saying 'home made'. But why 'baby' food? The idea of weaning is to 'wean' your baby from milk to food, so why do we wean from milk, to baby food, to real food? What is ... Read the complete review

When I was pregnant with my baby girl more than 3 years ago, I resolved that I would not use ready-made store-bought baby food. I think this stem from my teenage-hood memory of my cousin. When I was a teenager and my aunt had her first baby, she let me taste her store-bough baby food. It’s bland and utterly disgusting. OK, it was a long time ... Read the complete review

Parents these days seem to be in such a rush to get solids into their babies. Normally they say "he was a big boy" , "she was waking at night" or "he watches my food" none of these situations indicate a baby's need for solids! My son is 5 months old and wearing 9-12 month outfits yet I've not rushed out to ... Read the complete review

I was absolutely over the moon when the time came for my baby to be transfered onto food.I was breastfeeding so i knew the time was drawing near,it felt like i had a constant attatchment to my nipple!!So after consulting my healthvisitor i was given the go-ahead to start him on solids. After much wandering around and looking at numerous foods i ... I would like to asseverate that babies poo stinks. When mush is given at one end for consumption, mush comes out the other end, it's inevitable. It usually comes out in a quaquaversal manner too, smearing all over the place. Quaquaversal spatterings of stinky mushy orange poo are far worse than a nice solid dollop when it comes to ... My daughter was ready to be weaned at around 16 weeks old. I knew this because she was interested in our food and would reach for it or water at the mouth (this made us feel terrrible!!) She also started waking earlier in the morning which I felt was down to hunger. I wanted to make sure she ate a good diet with no hidden extra's ... Read the complete review

Well we are told to introduce our offspring to finger foods from about 6 months onwards, thing is no one tells you what are suitable finger foods and you're kind of left to guess for yourself. Well never fear English Lady and her daughter are here! My Daughter is now 9 months old and loves her finger foods. She ... Read the complete review

I dont claim to be an expert but after having had 4 children ( one only being 9 weeks old) these are a few things ive learnt along the way. Every baby is different,so weaning is often a case of trial and error. But stick to the following simple guidelines and you won't go far wrong. ********************* DO ... Read the complete review

I have just found this category thanks to bouncinggiraffe (great user name). Anyway I found it easier to feed my daughter and my son before her from ice cube trays, these are a god send, I think I read it in a baby magazine first then someone else suggested it, maybe the health visitor, but if it makes life easier then its worth trying. ... I'm not all that convinced by tinned babyfoods - there seems to be added stuff in them which I'm sure tiny babies shouldn't really be eating... My daughter isn't a great fan of ready-made baby food either! Here's a great tip: 1: Buy an ice-cube tray 2: Buy your own veg / fruit etc. when ... Read the complete review

When I first started to wean my daughter I was using tinned baby food but was horrified at the price. I bought the Baby and Toddler cookbook by Annabel Karmel and started to use some of her ideas. Butternut squash was a particular favourite and was extemely popular with my husband as well! In order to puree the food i bought a potato ricer and ... Read the complete review

Being an expectant mother for the second time I have to get back to old tips in order to be ready for this new baby and it helps me a lot in organising my time. Or Mel’s (rough) guide to weaning. I have to say before I start that I have been extremely lucky with charlotte. She is a human dustbin and will eat anything that’s put in front of her. The only complaints I get are: (10 minutes after eating): Mummy I haven’t had anything to eat for AGES, I’m very HUNGRY. ... Read the complete review

The big day came, my youngest child was ready to have more than just her milk, and it was time for some solid food I was ready; I had stacked my shelves with packets of dried food and tins of food. The packet food was easy to make up you just add a bit of water to some powder and it is good enough to eat. Well I am not so sure it is ... Read the complete review

I'll eat anything. My size is testimony to this, I have to admit. I wanted my children to be healthy, but not faddy, eaters. I have a dislike of manufactured baby food. Too many ingredients listed, not enough flavour to nurture their tastebuds. I appreciate that, in these hectic times, these foods can be an absolute gosend, and I ... Read the complete review
