Advantages: love in bucket loads
Disadvantages: never being tidy!
When i was younger i always knew i wanted to do things "the old fashioned way", in that i wanted to fall in love, get married then start my family, and when my daughter came along im glad i did, even though i now bring her up alone.
I was 29 when my daughter was born, i was married and had just bought a house ready for my new family, my daughter was a godsend as i had miscarried a child a few months earlier and was left heart broken, when i found out i was pregnant again i was nervous for the first few months but once i had carried for four months those feelings went, and i was sure i would go the length of the pregnancy.
When my daughter was born the love i felt for her was immense, and when the midwife placed her on me i was so proud and i couldnt take my eyes off her, she is now four and i still find myself watching her while she plays with that same proud feeling.
I found myself bringing up my daughter alone as the marriage fell apart, my daughter was 8 weeks old at the time but in a strange sense she helped me through, i had to stay strong for her as it was my responsibility to bring her up right.
Ive heard some people say that children bought up by single parents dont do as well in life and in some cases it might be true but in my case i actually think it made us closer as she grew up, we are best friends and we do everything together and she is a bright and clever little girl who does really well in school, im not saying it wouldnt of been the same if her dad still lived with her, but in my opinion it all depends on the individual parent regardless of one or two parent families, it just a matter of doing your very best for them.
To me being a parent is about understanding them, and always being there for them, and trying to be a friend aswell as giving discepline when needed, i also believe in teaching manners and respect as a lot of kids nowadays dont always have respect for others, i love reading and playing with my daughter, and having cuddles first thing in the morning when she says "morning mummy i love you" there is no feeling like it.
Your house may never be the same, and you will be constantly stepping over toys and tidying up every 5 minutes, not to mention the washing and ironing and needing a money tree in the garden!!but its so worth it, i wouldnt change it for the world.
I look forward to the rest of the memories we will share together.
Summary: the best job in the world.
