I gave birth to my daughter towards the end of 2006. I had reached my due date and nothing had happened a few days later, so I was sent to the Ante Natal Clinic to have a membrane sweep, which is similar to an internal examination and can help can help to get labour started. The membrane sweep had no effect, and I was given a date to go into ... Read the complete review

After reading another review about having births induced it reminded me of my two experiences, which I thought I share with you. I've had two children and both of the births had to be induced. The first (my son) was a lazy so and so and two weeks after my due date he still hadn't arrived. So I went into the hospital on the ... Read the complete review

Most little girls dream at one time or another of the white wedding, cute little bundle arriving etc etc but very rarely does it turn out how you expect! My husband and I had been married about 4 years when we found out I was pregnant. I was over the moon, although suprisingly apprehensive at times (must be the hormones!) During all ... I was booked in for an induction when my baby was 2 weeks overdue... I was booked in on a Wednesday at 10am and about an hour later a pessary was administered. That night, the contractions started and I couldn't sleep. At about 2am I got up to go to the loo, and can you believe it - what was left of the pessary tablet came out! I ... During my pregnancy with my son, I was well aware that I may have to be induced. Both my Mum and my Nan were due to pre-eclampsia and therefore, I saw it as then envitable. I'll admit, I hadn't quite thought the whole thing through though. Induction seemed to be an easy option, to me it meant having my baby sooner rather than waiting ... Read the complete review

I never gave much thought to the possibility of been induced but then I was in complete denial that I would even go into labour. I was found to have a rare blood condition through the routine blood tests during my pregnancy and although it doesn't really have any impact on me it can cause anaemia in my baby. This meant I had to have ... Read the complete review

I had to be induced at 39 weeks; due to a pregnancy condition called Obstetric Cholestasis (I have already written a review on this). On the day they were set to induce me I just felt sick, I was due to go in at 1pm and was really worried, I'd not really been given any information about what they would do to me, so I didn't know what ... When you are expecting your first child you secretly think it will arrive bang on your due date even though statistics prove that they never do and everyone tells you that you will probably be late. I was one of these mums but my due date came and went and before I knew it I was 9 days over due with no signs of the baby coming anytime within the ... Read the complete review

My baby was born by emergency c-section 11 days late. I was given a sweep (where the midwife puts her finger inside of you and separates the sac membrane from you womb, supposedly helping to bring on the labour process a little more naturally than drugs) but it didnt work for me (that i know of as i was induced the day after and sweeps can, ... I was induced at 36 weeks due to me having twins but on my scan they had noticed twin 2 had stopped gaining weight and was really falling behind so it was my only otion if i wanted a natural delivery. My induction seemed very fast although i did find it very painful, there are many ways you can be induced but i had the gel. the midwife came to me ... Read the complete review

There are several different ways you can be induced. I went through two of these ways before I could give birth to my beautiful little girl. Firstly because I was 9 days overdue I was told I had the option of having a membrane sweep. This is a simple procedure where a midwife or doctor will sweep with there finger at the membrane inside ... Read the complete review

i have applied to become a student midwive for sept 2006, and in doing so have researched many many aspects surrounding pregnancy and childbirth. my personal experience of being induced is that it made my labour very long, very painful and ended in a assisted ventouse delivery, epsiotomy and fetal distress. My labour was a total of 37 ... Read the complete review

My eldest child arrived naturally, bang on her due date after 33 hours of labour, by the end I was totaly exhausted and memories of her birth are very vague. She weighed in at 8lb 5oz, and I only had a few stitches as they had given me an episiotomy. When I was expecting my next child, I fully expected her to be on time or even early, as ... I had to be induced with my first baby due to warning signs for pre-eclampsia. Luckily she was already full term, and I had started to dilate. I was admitted to hospital after protein was found in my urine, and my blood pressure was high. As I had already dilated 2cm the induction began with my waters being broken. This was a painless ... I suffered from boarderline pre-eclampsia in my first pregnancy, this meant alot of medical checks, stays in hospital for days at a time and some unpleasent symtoms, so, when I went into hospital for a check up and was told my pre-eclampsia was no longer boarderline, but full blown pre-eclampsia, I was actually quite relieved to be offered ... It was Thursday 20th February 1992 at 8am in the morning when I entered the maternity ward to be induced with my first and as yet only child. I was almost two weeks late and because of this they decided to induce me. I was taken in to a delivery room and after an hour's wait a doctor (a tiny Chinese guy, the significance will become ... I have been induced twice unfortunately! The 1st time I knew nothing and did as i was told. I was induced at just 7 days over, which is way too soon. As a result I had the works, pessaries, arm (waters broken) and the dreaded drip. I was pestered by the midwives and consultant as I refused an epidural (no way would i ever have one of those) ... Induction is the practise of evicting your baby before it is ready to come out. There are reasons for doing this - medical conditions in the mother, such as pre-eclampsia can make it risky to continue, as can very big babies and those who have gone more than a couple of weeks over their due dates. However, it isn't a fool proof system, all ... Read the complete review

With my first child I went quite overdue and had a scheduled induction for a couple of days after the date I actually 'dropped' on (incidentally how less apt could the expression 'dropped' be?! sorry... on with the point). unless this option is medically neccessary , don't do it. - Advantages: known delivery date, no wake up in labour in the middle of the night - Disadvantages: more painful than labour starting on its own, doesn't always work, more intruding than a naturally starting labour
