Advantages: Getting a good education, while being surrounded by friends.

Disadvantages: None that i know of.

I was sent to boarding school when i was eight, my brother is ten years older than me and was at Cambridge university studying law, so my father thought that Cambridge was the perfect place to send me to school. My Mother died when i was born and my father spent a lot of time traveling due to his business so boarding school seemed an obvious option to him rather than a constant stream of different nannies.
I remember my first memory of boarding school being my big brother helping me up to my dorm with my trunk on my first day of term, sitting on my bed pulling me onto his lap hugging me and telling me that if i ever needed him he would be there in a flash. From then on school, my friends and teachers became my family. I know when people read books like Malory towers boarding school is portrayed as midnight feasts, adventures and jolly hockey sticks, but when i was at prep school, after school finished at 5:30, it would turn into a Malory towers or famous five novel, in the summer we would go into the woods and make bases, go to the stables and exercise our ponies, help the gardeners prune the roses and weed or just lie on the grass and chat or read. In the winter we would sit in our common room or dorms and read or play board games, watch TV, only educational programs (of course) or chat amongst our self. My teachers were strict and worked us hard, but our house mistresses were wonderful, the only person i can not praise is the matron, she was the one that would, go through your things to find your hidden tuck, (which we use to hide under the floor boards, bringing it out for our midnight feasts.) tell you off if you were out of bed after lights out and make sure the dorms were spotless. That was my education from the age of eight to eleven, at eleven i did my 11+ and got into an all girls boarding school Cheltenham Ladies, though boarding changed slightly, obviously more emphasis on work and the build up to exams, i was still surrounded by my friends 24/7. I never once felt abandoned by my family, being sent to boarding school was amazing and i think i had a great childhood. Boarding school teaches you to be responsible and teaches you important life skills but it also gives children a safe and sheltered place to grow and be nurtured. I am now twenty and am at university, having lived away from home before has made the transition so easy while others around me have struggled. If i have children i would definitely send them to boarding school.

Summary: Boarding school gave me a stable upbringing, and made me the person i am today.

I'm trying very very hard to suppress my 'state' school spirit with the outburst of
'OoOoO Cheltenham's Ladies' College'. >_< Lol. Oh well...I did it. I always used to read books like 'The Naughiest Girl in the School' (Blyton) and only dreamt of the 'Mallory Towers' experience. I suppose it's the only the preserve of those with more pennies :P
