Advantages: Stop drip dripping of milk everywhere!

Disadvantages: They need to be worn

Don't even go there without using breast pads! These are an absolute must. My advice is (if you are genuinely considering breast feeding) but a load of disposables (different types work for different people but have a look at some of the reviews to see which type might suit you best - I think go for atleast 3 packs) and also buy 2 packs of 6 washables.
After you have had the baby, particularly if this is your first (because the whirlwind of postnatal days and nights are a shocker!) you probably will not have the time or inclination to keep up with washing your pads - just use disposables for these intense weeks and when you are back on your feet move on to the washables.
Washables are a lot cheaper (with disposables think about getting through up to 10 in a 24 hour period) and they are also a lot more eco friendly.
Some people like to just rinse them through but I like to stick them in the washing machine(they are fine on 40 degrees) using baby washing powder such as fairy and then pop them on the radiator to dry.

Summary: An essential
