Carbon Monoxide Detectors in General

Description: Please name the brand of carbon monoxide detector that you are writing about

Newest Review: ... According to the BBC website 50 people each year in the UK alone die due to accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. The poisonous gas is produced by appliances and vehicles burning fuels such as coal, wood, gas, petrol and diesel and if inhaled will be absorbed by red blood cells within our lungs resulting in rapid damage to our heart and brain due to oxygen starvation. I was already going to ... more

... Homebase this weekend and whilst there decided I would look at the detectors they offered. Located on the same shelf as the smoke detectors, I was quite surprised at the selection as there was several types available from different manufacturers cons...more

Many may have recently read or heard the devastating news that two children died due to carbon monoxide poisoning whilst holidaying in Corfu during the October half term break. The two children were found dead in their beds, their Father and his partner were found unconscious, immediately rushed to hospital and placed on life support. The room adjacent to where the family slept housed a gas boiler and experts are now carrying out an inspection of the device to ascertain the origin of the poisonous gas. My heart felt wishes go out to the immediate family and friends affected by this tragedy. A smoke detector is commonplace in most households but how ...  Read the complete review

Carbon Monoxide is nicknamed the silent killer because it is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, yet highly toxic gas that can be lethal! Produced as a result of ANY fuel burning appliance, carbon monoxide becomes dangerous when the concentration in the air becomes too high. Adequate ventilation disperses carbon monoxide but if for example you have a gas fire in use and the chimney flue becomes blocked the gas will seep into the air without you noticing. The side effects of carbon monoxide poisoning are at first very similar to flu, but as the concentration level of this toxin in your body raises the effects get increasingly worse. Headaches, nausea, ...  Read the complete review

We have had these brilliant inventions in our home for a few years now,at the begining it was for peace of mind.A few months ago my husband was at work in a house when he got talking to the homeowner. He told my husband that some months earlier, his wife, child and himself kept falling a sleep, every evening and felt very 'flu like',quite ill at times. They called the gas board out as they needed some work doing, the gas worker pointed out the poor ventilation in their house and did a carbon monoxide test,he then informed them they were very lucky to be alive. What a very frightening thought.I for one would not be without ours and I strongly recommend it to all.We have ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review GAS APPLIANCE SAFETY (810 words)

Unserviced Gas appliances can kill - have you had yours checked in the last year? I never thought twice about gas servicing until I worked with a council in a housing office. Two tenants in the borough died of carbon monoxide poisoning because their gas central heating system hadn't been serviced. This was such a needless tragedy and unfortunately it happens to many people across the UK each year because of faulty and unserviced gas appliances. The problem with carbon monoxide is that it is a silent killer, you can't smell it or taste it and people are unaware of it's presence often until it's too late. The symptoms of carbon monoxide ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Carbon Monoxide Detectors in General: Its the silence thats the killer (139 words)

We had been in our new house about 18 months and I was convinced I could smell gas. Our through lounge had a feature fire place (one with pretend coals but really original looking) and we used the central heating. I was so convinced that I telephoned the freefone 'smell gas' number. The gas man came and discovered I had three seperate leaks (under the floorboards by the fire). But, more importantly, he discovered that the carbon monoxide levels were dangerously high. He then, by law, condemned our fire. We went straight out and bought a Carbon Monoxide Detector. Apparantly there is a simply test, hold a mirror behind the fire (where the fumes go up the chimney) ...  Read the complete review
