Advantages: The design of the blanket helps breathability and also keeps them warm.
Disadvantages: None in my opinion
When I first found out I was pregnant with my son, I can remember receiving a new mum pack from the midwife with a book on pregnancy related issues and advice, and inside this book was a list of what I needed to have ready for when my baby came into the world.
Now not all of these lists are great and often tell you to get things that you really do not need, or are defiantly not essential, but like all new mums, especially when its your first you think that you actually do need all of this list, or else it's the end of the world!!!....I can remember keeping the list on the fridge and freaking out at 8 months because I had not brought muslin cloths...how silly I was!!! I blame it on the hormones!
I can remember reading on the this list that I needed cellular blankets, and I A. did not know what they were and B. did not know why I needed them..... I got them anyway and thankfully have since realised what they are for and why I needed them.
The cellular design of the blanket (which basically is a blanket with small holes in it) allows you baby to breathe easier and also keeps them warm, without the danger of overheating so I was told by my midwife at the time.
The hospital use cellular blankets also, and it was good actually when my daughter was born as I forgot my blankets....well actually my husband forgot them in the excitement of finding her pink Liverpool baby grower...silly man!!....but the midwife gave me three of theirs to keep, which was really nice of them and also really handy for me.
The ones I purchased for my daughter and son were the ones from Mothercare, at the moment they range from 5.99-11.99 dependant on size, they come in 8 different colours white, lemon, cream, pink, blue, lilac, aqua and lime. They are all 100 percent cotton and wash beautifully.
I had one of the crib size and two of the cot size ones, and my children loved these blankets and to be honest my daughter still used her blankets up until a couple of months ago, more for comfort I think than anything, and the amount of stuff she would get on the blankets and yet they always washed up perfectly.
I have kept the six blankets I brought over the time I had my children plus the three from the hospital and have gave them to my brother in preparation for his first child, hopefully he does not have a boy as two of them are pink!!! But at least they will come in handy again.
I think these blankets are a good buy and were great for swaddling, although I think my sister in law told me, that she has been told that you are not allowed to swaddle your children now, due to the risk of cot death, well that's what a midwife told her anyway.... not sure how true this is, but I'm glad it was not told to me when I had my children as both of them liked to be swaddled and that's the only way they got to sleep, so I think I may have had a few sleepless nights if this rule was told to me then.
If You are interested in buying these blankets, then I would either get them from Mothercare or Kiddie care.com, whom do packs of two from 9.99, remember to check hot uk deals.com firstly to see if there are any money off voucher codes first to use on these sites, if you are buying online.
Summary: Loverly blankets, and dependant on what make you buy stay really nice for a long long time.
