Constructive play using objects to create something..

You need not use specially manufactured toys
Empty boxes make wonderful towers/ walls .A high tower of baked bean / tomato tins, yoghurt pot’s. Anything that will build and be constructed into something, you or I might not recognise the end product but that does not really matter the fun is in the construction and the child’s success at building something.

Some constructive toys are wooden bricks, Lego, Meccano, stickle bricks, linking bricks of any kind. Toys that are used to construct/ create something. Maybe you as an adult use constructive toys, make airfix models, model planes, boats, houses.

Construction toys assist to develop and encourage manual dexterity the ability of fitting pieces together .A child learns which pieces will fit together a round peg will not fit into a square hole, balance that you usually have to put larger pieces at the base of a building, the building itself can be imaginary play too. The child making the Lego buildings of a railway scene becomes the train driver, the builder by the side of the train track. The Airfix plane maker part of the construction team of the original airplane. Pretending to be daddy ,or mummy building a wall

While constructing a tower, bridge, simple building the child is learning shape, size how parts fit together.

Learning how to manipulate objects to create something maybe a castle out of bricks if the bricks are coloured this will help colour recognition.

Many a happy hour can be spent constructing models.
Children can use construction toys on their own independent of others or they can play in parallel along side another making his/her own model while their friend makes their own model. , Or alternatively can play cooperatively
with others making a building with the cooperation of someone else. You could play with your child helping them construct a wonderful object from that Christmas present they were given or just the box and packaging it arrived in. Have fun constructing and building
