Advantages: No washing just throw them away!
Disadvantages: Very unattractive!
From the moment i found out i was pregnant i was buting loadz of pregnancy books & mags and writing out a list as long as my arm for what i needed to get for the birth and stay in hospital! Never mind all the stuff i had to get for the baby!
In every single book and magazine i read they were all advising you to buy disposable maternity pants for after the birth as you can bleed very heavily after the birth and you could ruin your normal underwear.
I wasnt sure. When i was working before i was pregnant i rememba one of the girls i worked with was pregnent for the second time. And at lunchtime in the staff room she was looking through bags of shopping that she had just been out and bought and she pulled out this box of disposable maternity knickers! I was shocked that such a thing existed! I had never heard of them before! But then i suppose its not the kind of thing that you know about unless you or someone you are close to has been pregnant!
She pulled a pair of them out to show me! They were hideous! Massive paper pants! At the time i thought there is no way that you will get me in a pair of them!
But here i was pregnant, standing in mothercare holding a box of disposable underwear just about to go and buy them! I couldnt beleive that i was actually going to have to wear these horrible things! As i was waiting in the queue desperatley trying to hide the box i was holding a woman i used to work with who had just had her baby a few months before came over and said to me "they were the best things i have ever bought. Im so glad i didnt use normal underwear as i bled loadz and had to change them every hour cause they were soaked through every time!" I was so embarassed! there was a big queue of people and they all heard her!
Then before i knew it i had given birth! Aimee was here! I couldnt beleive it! As i only had gas and air as pain releif i was able to go for a bath! Which was much needed! But when i got out the bath i decided that i would just use normal underwear as i had looked at the disposable ones again and they looked even more ugly than they did the first time i set eyes on them!
Wen i went back to the ward everyone came up to see me. So i left baby Aimee with everyone cooing over her and went to the toilet and to my horror i had bled right through the towel onto my pants!Iwas mortified! What was i going to do! I couldnt go back out in front of everyone! So in the end i had to buzz for the nurse to come and rescue me! How embarrasing!
If only i had used the disposable ones like everyone had said!
And as for them being unatractive beleive me you will not care! As the last thing you want to do after having a baby is let anyone see your pants let alone have sex! And by the time you are ready to have sex again you wont be wearing the big ugly pants anymore! Hurrah!
HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?
I purchased mine from a mothercare store which were £1.99 for 5 pairs. But if you buy them from mothercares website it will cost you a further £4.95 for standard uk delivery. But they are available in boots and some supermarkets if they have a big baby section. They would probably be a lot cheaper one of those places!
All in all i would highly recomend using these as otherwise you will be presented with a pile of blood stained pants to wash! Which is the last thing you want to do when you have just had a baby!
I hope this is of use to you pregnant women out there!
Thank you for reading. xx
Summary: Stops you having messy knickers!
