I came home from work last night to be greeted by my 13 year old son, who informed me that he was giving 100 lines. He is a very quiet child and so I asked him what he received the lines for and what he had to write. He informed me that during the day he was giving a friend his eraser back and the teacher had seen him giving it back to the boy at the time he was handing it to him. I then asked him what the teacher asked him to write to which he replied.” I MUST NOT HOLD HAND WITH STEWART IN CLASS”, after taking in what he told me I was a bit shocked. Even more so that the teacher had done this in front of the whole class and everyone was laughing. I wrote a note informing the teacher that I thought this was very humiliating and that my son would not be doing the lines and that I was very angry that someone in his position would treat a person like this. Especially as teachers are meant to show by example. I called the school and spoke to the guidance teacher and she too was shocked about the issue and told me that she would speak to the teacher in question. When my son came home from school I was then informed that he had been being called gay boy all day as an aftermath of the incident yesterday with the teacher. And the teacher told my son when he gave him the note from me and read it that HE WAS ONLY JOKING. Well I am sorry but I do not see the funny side of this at all. Teachers are meant to make the pupils they teach more confident and teach them values and from what my son experienced yesterday I do not see any evidence of this at all.

- 19/11/01 I'm a teacher and I am disgusted that your son's teacher behaved in such an unprofessional manner. |

- 17/11/01 I sympathise with you, and this sort of thing shouldn't happen. Bullying in school is bad enough, without it having to come from teachers too.
Sorry about the rating, same reason as Jill. |
