Advantages: great experience

Disadvantages: a little daunting

A hand mirror is definately a item i would seriously recomend you putting in your hospital bag when preparing for your birth, not to apply your make up as you will probably not care about doing this but to actually be able to see your baby being born.

I used one with my daughter and it was the best thing ever to be able to see my babys head appear at the exit of the birth canal, to watch her little head as she was on her way out, see her hair and her little scrunched up face and most funny of all was at this point my contraction stopped and back in her little head went untill i could not see her face any more with the next contraction her head came out fully.

This was realy great to be able to see and something i will remember forever, it is impossible to see without a mirror as baby is born facing your bottom if in the correct position and it is a marvelous experience.

A mirror with a long handle is best so that you can hold it your self but if you cant find one you can always get your birthing partner to old it for you.

Summary: a brilliant experience
