Advantages: to recognise it coming

Disadvantages: its not the stress on its own its what you do when you have it

The word "exam" makes even the strongest of us shiver. We have all been through something that we have had to take an exam in.

We have had three children now having gone through the school examinations and come out the other side.

I expect there are many out there that will disagree with my point of view but that is what opinions is all about so here it is.

Examinations are not the b all and end all of everything. You can really only do your best and that is all.

When your child is going through the lead up to exams nothing seems normal to them and it is not unusual for them to get some really weird ideas that any other time they would never had thought of.

The most being that if I dont live up to everyones expectations of what they expect I have let everyone down no matter what mark I get.

At the very beginning tell them you will love them and be proud of whatever result they get as long as they have done their best.

If they start to show stress because of the work, get them into a routine of studying. If you cant help with this the teachers will give them a study form which really does help.

Dont make them study every moment of their time. They do need a bit of free time to relax.

Trust them to study with friends as that too will be less stressful for them both as they can ask each other questions.

My youngest working (apprenticeship) daughter has got a good job but it wasnt because she got As but because she used her inititive and got the position so it is not just a case of As but being in the right time at the right time and personality.

Trust your child if they are trustworthy. It is their life not yours that the exams are for.

Needs more depth on the points you raise, but I really could have hugged you for including the tip that parents will love you as long as you do your best!

Hi, this is good stuff but I think you could expand a lot more on some of your points. My parents helped me a lot when I had exams by letting me off housework, and testing me. :-)
