Advantages: My Son!
Disadvantages: bad attitude on staff just because they had a full ward
My hospital birth was ok but the aftercare was horrible and I have to say it has put me off from having another baby.
I had my son on a Wednesday , once my son was born I was rushed into theatre as my son had managed to burst some of my blood vessels , I spent 2 hours in theatre and had loads of stitches.
My husband was left holiding the baby and was told not to move from the room , being a first time dad he didn`t have a clue but he stayed calm and did what they said.
Eventually I was taken back to be with my husband and son and then we were taken down to the ward where quite honestly we were just dumped to get on with things. My husband eventually went home and all was fine till my son decided he wanted a nappy change , because I had an epidural from the op I was very numb . I rang the buzzer the midwife came and she wasnt impressed that I had asked for help , I also told her I felt light headed she said I was just tired.
The following morning this same midwife came to see me and pratically yelled at me because I had not been to the loo , now lol I was still quite numb but I managed to make it to the bathroom , coming out of the bathroom I nearly landed up on the floor from dizziness , so this midwife said that I must have overdone things.
During the day everytime I had something to eat I felt very light headed and very very tired . I kept complaining to the midwives and eventually 2 junior doctors came to take some blood . They tried 10 times in all! and eventually they got some.
On the Friday I was told I could go home even though I felt dreadful , but just before I left the ward sister came to see me to say that my blood levels were very low 6.5 and that I needed a blood transfusion. I wanted my son to be discharged because I felt like I couldnt look after him I felt so ill with no energy and the nights were horrible because I just didnt have the energy to lift him out of the crib. The sister of the ward said that my son could not be discharged and that my husband could not stay overnight , so I told them I was discarging myself they must have taken me seriously because soon they had me transfered to a room behind the nursing station and they said someone would help during the night with my son.
On the Saturday the doctor said I could be discharged but she advised me to stay in hospital for a few days , I refused .
You know in my medical notes for my midwife who visited me at home it said I had no maternal feelings because I had wanted my son to be discharged. My first thought had been for my son , I was so worried that the care at the hospital was really horrible I just wanted him out of that place.
My son is now 2 1/2 years old he is a proper little rascal and I love him to bits . :)
Summary: Never Again

- 19/10/08 I think I'd make a stink and try to get that removed from my records. It's a horrible judgemental thing to say just because she was too bloody dim to work out what was really happening. |
