I met him through friends. We spent three days kissing until I thought my lips would bleed. We'd sit there saying nothing imparticular but smiling far too much and when we did sneak a few minutes alone my heart felt like it would explode. Given that he was quite shy and blonde and everything I'm not basically, it all came as a bit of a surprise. He turned to go and I had to stop myself crying and asking him not to leave me now I've found him.

That scene took place in 1993 and just last weekend. Some people think that you're never going to replace your first love and for years I really thought this was the case. I've now become that nervous seventeen year old waiting for the phone to ring. As I'm typing this I am sat here with my mobile phone tossed under my couch away from my reach, just so I can't check if he's texted for the 1,000 th time today.

It's delicious and it's cruel and I am amazed that I feel like this. I don't know what will happen, he still hasn't called me and probably won't -- that's the cynical twelve years inbetween talking and do you know what if he doesn't I will be hurt but it won't be the end of the world, it happened before and I ended up taking an overdose of paracetomol -- because I thought I would never be happy again -- I know now , that I can and I will be and if one thing has come out of the past five days, it's the knowledge that the nerves, the excitement and yes the come down and disappointment can happen at any time.

Everytime you fall in love with someone who just fits you, it is akin to Madonna's 'Like A Virgin' with possibly less lace, you may fall out of love or be intensely connected for just a small space of time but with that feeling of utter belonging with a layer of adrenalin.

So if you think you will be forever thinking of that spotty youth, who clumsily put his tongue in your mouth, then you are wrong. Every love is a ''First'' love.

And I thank them all. I thank them for the time I spent with each of them for different ways and that is why every love is a first, because you change as time passes. So if you are 14 waiting on a text or 45 waiting for the divorce papers to come through, just remember you're next first love could be around the corner...........
