Advantages: Feels lovely
Disadvantages: Hurts!
I've pondered this for the last two days. You see, I love alot. If I love something, I love it passionately. Over the years, that's equalled a whole lotta lovin'! When this topic first came up, I knew straight away what I wanted to say, the incident that has brought a smile to my face over the years, but I didn't think it was appropriate under the title ' First Love '. But what the hell...it's all I can come up with, other than boring you with the details of my incredibly happy marriage ;) I was raised in an old mining community, surrounded by some lovely countryside. There wasn't much to do as a teen, but as a young child, it was like living in heaven. Everybody knew everybody else, and we all looked out for each other. My parents neighbour was a policeman and his wife. They were lovely, letting us in and out of thier garden to play with thier 2 labradors. Strangely, my parents bred Labs, but the policemans were better than ours ( lol, c'mon, I was 10! ) We were highly excited on discovering that one of them was carrying puppies, and visited every day. We helped Rob ( The policeman! ) build a puppy station in his garage, then between us we collected lots of old toys ' Presents for the babies! ' On leaving for school one morning, Rob called out to us. They'd arrived during the night! 3 black, 2 golden, all healthy. And if we promised to be really quiet, we could visit after school. As you can imagine, our teacher earnt her money that day! We rushed home from school faster than we ever had before, and ran straight to Robs door. On entering the dimly lit garage, we could hear them..scratching around in the straw, thier proud mum watching us closely. They were so tiny! And on counting, there were 6! She came while we were at school, another goldie. She was smaller than the others, but otherwise, perfect. She was suckling greedily from her mum, as if the others had been depriving her whi
le in the womb. And she carried on like that for the following 3 weeks. The puppies were rapidly growing, and Rob announced that he was placing an ad in the vets surgery to find homes for them. That's when I realised how much I loved her. My heart started to pound, I was shaking and the tears started flowing. I realised I'd never see her again, and my heart was broken. My mum had sold 2 litters of Lab puppies before, and it hadn't bothered me like this. I remember actually daydreaming about how great my life would be, if she was mine! " Daddy, can we get a new puppy? " The pups were 4 weeks old, and a couple came to choose a pup while I was visiting. They wanted mine, but Rob told them he was sorry, she was sold already. I ran screaming out of the garage, ignoring his call, ran into the woods behind my mums house and I sobbed. It didn't take Rob long to find me, and when he asked me what I was going to call her, I couldn't take it in. The pure joy I felt was unreal. I was laughing and sobbing all at once. We returned to the garage, and I looked at MY puppy for the first time, my heart actually aching with happiness as I gazed into her big brown eyes. LOVE.
