I was of the opinion that I would give my son the MMR but then i found out that my clever and bright nephew had Autism! this really scared me so I decided to look into it and see if information on the internet would help me make a decision and I think it has.

There are as many fors as againsts. One thing I have found is that the study done in Finland was financed by Merck (a company that produces the MMR!) can you trust this but then again can you trust anything you hear or read.

I think that I will pay to give my son the single vaccines which have been around for a long time (this 32 yr old mum got them) because I could never ever forgive myself if I took my son to get the MMR and he became Autistic because I would always blame the MMR and myself. He is a beautiful boy and I am not going to put him at any risk of Autism. There is so much I could say all about my feelings on this but like everyone else I do not know the facts, I also think that Tony Blair is WRONG for not saying whether his son has been vaccinated its all very well saying he shouldnt have to tell us but at the end of the day he is the person responsible for forcing us to give the MMR to our children so he should say whether he has or not. He is playing the lottery with our childrens lives and is responsible for so many Autistic children if the MMR does turn out to be a cause.

Thats all I will say for now. X

I take the points below, but you are right to be concerned and they do not give the help and advice you need.

Apparently if you manage to arrange to get just one of the separate vaccinations carried out privately (eg rubella - probably the easiest), the NHS will provide the remainder singly. Not having the vaccinations done at all is a VERY big risk.

Oh and I had "Whooping Cough without the Whoop" (and that wuz VERY nasty! lol).

Good luck, Chucks, and I hope that you manage to arrive at a suitable compromise.

Hmmm. I tend to come down in favour of vaccination, as I didn't get the whooping cough vaccine in the 70s... and got whooping cough! (Which is *not* nice). It now looks pretty certain that there'll be a major outbreak, if not an epidemic, in London (which has a dreadful takeup rate - barely 70% - for MMR) in the next year or two. When people see what measles can do, public opinion might well change again.

Sorry about the SU but you SHOULD have said more, arguments for and against, your feelings etc. You may not have proof but this is YOUR opinion remember.
