I packed my bag at 30 weeks, we were having weekly growth scans for our daughter who wasn't growing quite aswell as expected and i knew I was likely to be taken into hospital early.

I read loads of lists on the internet and thought "flipping heck do I really need all that" - No is the answer

I took 2 bags, 1 small holdall for me and babys first outfit. And her changing bag which stayed in the car and my husband brought in after she was born.

In my bag I packed

1 pair of PJs
2 cheap nighties (from tesco for £5)
slippers
5 pairs of big knickers (£2 from ethal austin!)
a bottle of squash
make up
baby wipes (for me)
shampoo,conditioner, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste
hairbrush
a book
birth plan (which was a waste of time as I was induced)
Arnica - also a waste of time as if I was going to be aplying that to 1 day old stitches!
maternity pads - I took 1 pack, but however my waters broke the night before she was born and I went through a whole pack, after that and by 4 weeks after the birth I had gone through about 5 packs so make sure you stock up.
Breastpads - a waste of time as my milk didnt come in until she was 4 days old and I didnt breastfeed anyway.
1 sleep suit
1 vest
1 nappy
1 hat

In the changing bag I had
3 sleepsuits
6 vests
6 nappies
cotton wool
a dummy just in case - which she didnt take.
a blanket

And thats it. Apart from the maternity towels (I asked my mum to bring me a pack in) I didnt need anything else. So don't be arriving at hopsital with 10 million bags because trust me, unless you are in forever you won't need them. Leave extra bits in baby's cot and if you need them your partner can bring them in for you as you need them.

One thing I dont reccomend is asking your husband to bring in some going home clothes, he brought me my pre-pregnancy jeans that I couldnt do up and a holey top! I had also made the mistake of sending him home with the clothes I had worn to go to the hospital in.
