Advantages: I had most of the stuff

Disadvantages: My rucksack was awful

Ok so what did I pack in my bag..

Firstly I think I was quite late in packing my bag as I was convinced baby was going to be overdue so I didn't start packing till probably gone 32 weeks and didn't finish until at least 40 weeks (I was overdue by the way!).

I would advise you pack two bags, one for you and one with baby stuff. Don't make the bag huge as you can't store it anywhere at hospital. Rucksacks are bad ideas as everything is always right at the bottom.

I'll write it as a list for ease of reading and make comments where necessary.

For birth

Pen and paper and digital watch -for your other half to time contractions
Hair bobble - you will need to tie long hair up
Sports bottle - to have a drink
Food - your other half doesn't get fed so he will need lots of supplies. You may also want to keep strength but eating is bad news. I had a cereal bar to keep me going.
Camera, film and batteries
CDS - I had lots but still listened to Radio. I heard the same songs loads.
3 nighties - I gave birth in a hospital gown but all the bleeding after wards and leaking breasts (lovely picture of motherhood!) you get through them. Make sure they are roomy but decent.

For after...

Disposable knickers - were rubbish for me as I found they didn't fit. Just lots of old pairs that you will throw away after.
Maternity Sanitary pads - the hospital should give you them but have some in your bag.
Dressing gown
Slippers and socks - your feet swell up sometimes and shoes are therefore a no no. I went home in slippers!
Breast pads and nursing bras
Lanisoh cream - if you want to breast feed you will need this. It helps sore nipples and was my saviour.
Earplugs - too drown out the screaming of baby's in the ward for when yours is asleep and you want to.
Mobile and charger - your lifeline to the outside world. Our hospital would let you use them quietly.
More food and drink.....
Clothes to go home in - I went home in what I came in wearing- I still looked 5 months pregnant!
Toilet bag and make up - Mascara makes you look better on all the photos!
Some cash - I didn't use any but nice to know it's there.

I'll scoot over the baby stuff as it's all pretty straight forward.
Baby stuff
Sleep suits, hat, vests, nappies, wipes, scratch mitts, going home outfit, dummy if you want to use one. I took in size 0-3 as I knew he would be bigger than average (he was 9lb 2oz)
Your partner can bring in a blanket, car seat and pram suit when needed.

All in all you can usually get a relative or friend to bring in what you forget!
Also remember to pack
A swear box! My husband could have made a fortune before my epidural.

Summary: What you need to take take for birth and next day

Everytime I return a rate of yours you have reviewed what is on my list to review. I'm not copying you I think we just own alot of the same stuff or have been through the same experiences:)

I'm so glad I had a homebirth 3rd time round. I didn't have to worry about any of this and certainly no probs with other babies crying. I really hated being in hospital.
