Advantages: Be effiecient, don't run out

Disadvantages: packing takes time

I have had two pregnancies, and luckily for me two births, to two beautiful babies.

Both pregnancies were completely different for me, my first i put on over seven stone, suffered from depression and ate anything in sight. My second i put on just over two stone, worked throughout, wore normal clothes, and was my normal self.

My first pregnancy was uncomfortable toward the end, as i had put on alot of weight, my blood pressure soared. I was admitted to hospital at 37 weeks for hospital rest and checks.

I wish i had packed more sensibly for this, as i was not to come out. I went in, and five days later i gave birth after being induced. My ideal bag for this birth would have been as follows:
* 2 comfy tracksuits
* lots of knickers, about 2 weeks worth
* 2 normal bras, and 2 nursing bras
* About seven t-shirts
* Trainers or deck shoes
* Slippers
* Dressing gown
* 5 nightshirts
* 5 pairs of socks
* a dirty washing bag
* various squashes
* fruit
* personal stereo(hospital radio sucks)
* magazines
* books
* Bills, believe it or not, you can make good use of your time
* Snacks, hospital food does not fill you up
* a goodie bag for hubby
* chess, or other board games
* cards (essential)
In fact i only had half of this, i will make just one list at the end for the baby and after birth essentials.
For my second, i was only in hospital for a day, but i do think i needed more magazines, cards (i didn't learn my lesson) and snacks.

For labour:
* One old nightshirt or t-shirt, which you
do not mind being thrown away
* Sweets and chocolate, not energy tablets,
they leave a dry taste in your mouth
* plenty of still drinks such as water or
orange
* a squash ball to squeeze, hubby gets the
hump after a while

For the baby:
* at least four vests & babygro's
* hat
* 4 pairs scratch mittens

* a newborn pack of nappies
* Cotton wool balls(you don't use baby wipes
until the baby is older)
* 2 cardigans
* dummy(if you choose)
Its is a good idea to pack another simular bag and leave it at home, ready for hubby to bring in if you run out.

For You:
* make-up
* money
* clothes that are comfy, but make you feel
good
* toiletries
* disposable knickers (2 packs)
* good sanitary towels ( i used always ultra)
(about 3 packs)
* fruit (especially bananas)
* squash
* phone book

The previous lists are what i had, but in my first list what i wish i had had, as it was a long time in hospital(6 days).

Remember, you don't have to take all at once, pack them at home, label them, and get hubby to bring them in, in stages, as you don't have much room to store your bits.

Good Luck!

Wow 7 stone weight gain! I thought I had put on a record amount with my first pregnancy with 4.5+ stone (8lb baby)! I only put on 2st 2lbs second time round & had a 10lb 8.5oz baby!
Good op btw!

Too true, I had 3 different births, 1st c-section, 2nd induced and 3rd natural. Great opinion.

Some great advice. I packed 2 separate bags labour and birth in one and baby stuff in other. which was a lot easier :-)
