Advantages: comfortable

Disadvantages: Doesn't look good

When I was pregnant one of the huge dilemmas that I thought long and hard about was what I would wear during the birth of my son. 'How ridiculous!' I hear you say. For pregnant woman this is a real issue though. It's not very comfortable or practical giving birth in your sexy lingerie. Yes it looks good but believe me when you are in the height of contractions and about to pop that little baby's head out of you then you will find that just about everything will get on your nerves especially the thong that is sticking up your bum!

I knew I wanted to breastfeed so I went for one of those night shirts that old ladies wear. You know, the ones with the buttons all the way down the front and they end at the floor! It was ugly I can tell you that but all I was thinking about was the easy access it gave my baby to my boobs. It was also comfortable and soft which is a huge factor. I didn't pay a huge amount of money for it because I knew it would get covered in just about every bodily fluid going so I wouldn't recommend that you go to Harrods and pay the world for it.

At the end of the day it comes down to personal choice. If you want to wear your hubby's shirt then do. If you fancy wearing a granny nightdress like me then do but I will repeat myself once more and say 'Make sure it's comfortable!!!'. You will thank me for that after:)

Anyway so it turns out that my first labour was very long and I couldn't be bothered to change into my nightdress. I just wiiped my trousers off near the pushing part and my boy was placed on the top that I had been wearing that day.
The second labour was very much the same. I gave birth to my son at home and after my waters broke twice over all of my clothes I just laboured in my underwear.

What happened to the granny night dress? I hear you say. Well you'll be pleased to know that I have worn them since and the £1.99 I paid for it hasn't gone to waste. They did come in very useful for breastfeeding at night.

Summary: An essential part of a pregnant womans hosiptal bag.

I had the hospital gown look too, but I didn't have much choice coz was a c-section. Had plenty cheap and cheerful 'granny nighties' and some hideous mint green pj's for my hospital stay.

Oops, I forgot to take a nightie/shirt with me (well, I didn't actually think I was in labour at the time) and ended up wearing the attractive green hospital gown!
