Older Mothers in general

Newest Review: ... fo this was down to the fact that I didn't meet the man I wanted to have children wih until I was aged 26. Also because I didn't feel ready to have children until I reached my thirties. I had my first baby aged 32 , and I am due to have my next two aged 33 ( twins ). I don't think that this is an old age to be having children , I feel that it is just right. The mothers who have children in their forties , I admire. It is so hard doing it in your thirties I dread to think how hard it must be ten years older!! The strain on your body during pregnancy takes its toll. I would not have children older than I am now as I think it would be far to... more

How old do you have to be to be classed as an older mother? I left having children until I was in my 30's. The reason fo this was down to the fact that I didn't meet the man I wanted to have children wih until I was aged 26. Also because I didn't feel ready to have children until I reached my thirties. Premium Review Age is Just a Number- Youre the Best Mum! (942 words)

What is an older mother in this modern age? Women are routinely having their babies in their mid-late thirties, and often well into their forties. Some women do not enter the menopause until their fifties, so up until then they are legitimately child-bearing age. Of course, there are those women who defy mother nature and undergo IVF at an unfeisably old age- their sixties, and possibly their seventies. This is an anathema to me, as nature doesnt allow for motherhood at this age (I say motherhood, as men can procreate for as long as they can make love), and it strikes me as incrediably selfish to pursue such a demanding role this late in life. I actually ...  Read the complete review

I am writing this review as someone who had an 'older' Mum! My Mum had us (when I say us, I mean I have a twin) when she was 40, and I suppose in these years back then, and no contraception, it was a 'hit or miss' whether you fell pregnant or not! Let's just say my Mother had a very nasty shock when she realised not only was she pregnant, she was pregnant with twins at the ripe old age of 40! She had already had one son, who she had had at 19, and another, (who had died when 2 years old) and we had an older Sister of 5 years! She had been warned that there were risks at her age, and of course the risks doubled with her having twins! My ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review How old is an older mother? (942 words)

A question I have asked myself many times is how old is an older mother? More people have their children in their 30's now than in the generation before me. I was the grand age of 32 when I had my first child - I am about to have my second at age 36. I must admit I don't feel old. I do have friends and family members having shildren up to the age of 40. Admittedly I know of no one who has gone through pregnancy after age 40. So to me an older mother would be in their 40's. I can remember my Mam - who was 21 when she had me - telling me that at 25 I would be considered an older mother! I remember thinking I would have liked children at around ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Older Mothers in general: More years bring more knowledge. (384 words)

As the daughter of older parents, my mother was 42 when I was born and my father 40 I consider myself very lucky. When I was young I took my upbringing for granted as I guess most children do. I thought all Mums made jam and baked cakes and talked of the war and kept the pantry well stocked. I'm 37 now with a family of my own and it wasnt until I settled down to marriage (at 20) and my first child (at 21) that I really began to appreciate just what my parents had given me. When I compare my upbringing to the upbringing of others the same as me I see all sorts of differences. I was taught to waste nothing, we tend to think of recycling as a ...  Read the complete review
