Being a parent is a lifetime job I would say in my opinion. When I was a kid with my younger sister and an older brother, my mum used to look after us all. My dad was too busy in his business. Even if he wanted to spend some time with us, he could not as the business used to take up all of his time. I was born and brought up in India. We used to live with my grandparents. My grandpa bought a business, which he handed to my dad, as he was the only person to take over. Rest of our family was in overseas. My mum used to help us doing our homework, get us ready, make our lunch, etc. When our exams come, she used to get up early and prepare us. Anyway, as my granddad was a successful businessman, he used to have friends coming from all over the country. Not only that they used to come at weird times like in the middle of the night. This is all due to them knowing that we owned a big house of 25 rooms yes that’s right 25 rooms. So none of them used to bother going to the hotel. And my granddad was a man with big heart. I don’t mind them people staying in our house but my poor mum had to cook dinner for them in the middle of the night. Because I was so young, I could not even help my mum. I used to just watch her – my poor mum. There was no one to help her. My granddad used to just order my mum on what to cook. And you know in those days, you don’t speak back to your in-laws. So my mum used quietly do her work. After a few years, my dad decided to send my brother and me to UK to my uncle’s. So we studied here and found a decent job. My sister came here after a few years. We used to get phone calls from my parents from India once in a while. Although they were in India busy with other things, they never forgot to phone us and see if we are ok. That was over after 25 years of hard work. My dad decided to sell the business and shifted here wit
h my mum. My grandparents died so there was no point of keeping the property in India. We were so pleased to see my parents after a long time. Now I am married and have a son who goes to school full time. But the problem is because my husband and I work full time; we sometime don’t have time to drop our son to his school. Thanks to my mum and dad, they look after our son until we are back from work. We drop him in the morning and my parents do the rest for him. Feed him, clean him, drop him to school, and pick him up when he finishes school. Sometime even take him to Doctors if needed. Although I am married, my parents are still fulfilling their duties. They don’t have to but they do. Sometimes if I am working till late, my dear mum cooks for us all so I don’t have to do any work once I get home. Bless her! I am so thankful to god that he has given us such wonderful parents. Bless them! Thanks for reading!
