Advantages: They help me

Disadvantages: NONE

My son Leon is 10, he has A.D.H.D. He was first classed as having this illness when he was five. I found it very hard to deal with in the begining, why me? why my son? I began to hate him, it seemed that he was never good, I screamed and shouted a lot, but this lovelly sunny angel boy would show me his smile and I'd melt.

No-one told me anything, or offered help, I had this child that I could not cope with, he seemed different I had to tell him constantly for silly things he did wrong all the time, he couldn't sit still and had endless energy. Staying up til 1am most nights.
He would walk into doors, put clothes on iside out and back to front.

But I wasn't an experienced parent, I didn't think anything of his behaviour really, didn't have anyone to compare like for like with either.
It was the school that started the ball rolling, his behaviour at school was the worst.

I had to attend these school meeting where they would tell me all the things that this lovelly little boy was supposed to have done including, stabbing a girl with a pencil, breaking a chair over a fellow class mates head, dug his nails into his helpers hand and made her bleed.
I couldn't believe what was going on, I needed help, but still, none was offered, so I asked, still NOTHING!!
He had to go to appointments at the hospital and he went on ritalin. He lost his appetite, he just shrank and completely lost his personality, he turned into a zombie. I demanded he come off, I wanted my special boy back.
I started to look for help. I rung many places, but most didn't offer help, then I found the Parent partnership project.

Based in plymouth the parent patnership project helps parents with children that have A.D.H.D and simular conditions.
They attended meetings with me as well as prepare me for the meetings. Handed me lots to read and offered help with going shopping and lots of other things.

Thes
e people were loving and caring, they really want to do their jobs, (all voluntary)
they really helped me through, I felt full support and they helped me with my confidence.
I understand my son now, we are great friends, he's in a better school for his needs. And in Plymouth to, so he doesn't have to be away through the week, like some kids I know.
I would recommend anyone who needs help like I did to contact them, thier number is in the phonebook.
Sorry if this is wrong section, still learning my way around!!

Sorry for the low rating but it isn't very helpful to just say "numbers in the phone book". Also a bit more info on what the group do (what the type of thing they gave you to read, what the meetings were they attended with you)

My friend has an ADHD son, hence my interest in getting any help possible for her as well. If you update the op, please let me know and I'll more than happily rerate.
Cheers and all the best with Leon
