Advantages: Tonnes to choose from.

Disadvantages: A lot of unwanted mod cons.

When I became pregnant with Noah one of the essential items on my list was a baby rocker. I knew exactly what I wanted and set out on a mission to get it.

When it comes to babies and rocker chairs you will find that there aretonnesof different ones that you can choose from. You can pay a tiny amount of money for one but you can also pay the earth for one too. There are ones that will suit every parents needs and situation and if you don't know what you want then it is easy to get lured into buying something that you can really do without.

When it came to my little dumpling I was sure that a very traditional, no frills bouncer would do it for me. I got mine from Ebay and I paid less than a tenner for it. It is one of those ones that is all material but bounces a little when your baby moves. I love it and I really don't think this is a thing that you need to pay over the odds for. It lasted my first son until he was six months old at which point he was nearly sitting up so it was dangerous to keep him in it. My second son is just over six months old and has no inclination of sitting up yet so he's stll in it. He absolutely loves it nd has worked out that if he moves his left hand up and down this bounces the chair and he sits there for ages bouncing up and down.

If you think that an traditional rocker isn't for you then just take a look in the Argos catalogue or go along to BabiesRus and you will be sure to find something that will suit your needs. You can get just about anything these days. Some come with a vibrating motion that slowly sends your ittle one off to sleep, others have tos that dangle from a pole infront of your babies face so they can play and be stimulated. Some look absolutely amazing and are look like a little swing and some have lights and noises to sooth and comfort.
Whatever you want, I'm pretty sure you will beable to find.

Here are a few things to think about before you actually make a purchase:

1) The price.
Like I have said already, the one I bought was less than a tenner but there are others out there that are more expensive and have more to them. Decide on a budget before you start looking or you could get carried away.

2) Colour and theme.
If you have a them throughout the nursery then you might want to tie your rocker in with that. I wasn't sure if was having a boy or a girl s went for a neutral coloured one.

3) Ease of washing.
Both of my boys were breast fed. Breast fed babies tend to have runnier poo than bottle fed babies. I found that they were always leaking through here nappies on to the material of the rocker. I don't know how many times I've had to take it apart to be washed but I know it would have been a real pain if the rocker was difficult to take apart or not washable at all.

4) Space.
Some rockers are like small theme parks which can take up a lot of room. Just be aware of how much space you have for one because the last thing you need is the thing to be taking over the small floor space in your living room.

5) What do you want attached?
I was really sure that I didn't want one that rocked my baby off to sleep mechanically as I didn't want them to get used to being rocked off. I've worked with plenty of children that have relied on movement to actualy fall asleep and it just makes things very difficult.
I also wanted a removable attachment on my rocker so I could swap and change the toys so they didn't get bored with what they were playing with.

Over all I would say that you don't need to pay the world for one but carefully consider what you would like from your rocker before you buy it. Hopefully the five points above will help you out in your decision.

Summary: Im happy with a simple one.
