Teenage have this feeling of neither being an adult nor a child. This feeling gives an identity crisis which gives rise to a lot of adjustment problems. The mind refuses to listen to the norms prescribed by the adults because the peers say otherwise. Peers and parents are the two major time partners for the teens. It is therefore these two sets of people who have to form the support group too.
While the choice of parents is not a matter of choice the choice of peers is definitely the major cause of one's growth to adulthood. A good peer group would support the ideas, suuplement them with good quality feedback and help in the growth of each other . This growth includes doing better in education and career, in personality development, in social circles and in the family too. The crucial issue is that in case the peer group insists on vices and ridicule to change the positive growth of a teenager the stage may be set that he/she may take to the ways of the group to shun ridicule. It is for thsi reason that when parents keep a watch on the peers that their wards go out with, they should try and gauge their attitudes and temperament and supportively try and weed out the undesirable without confrontation.
The other support group-the parents are the kingmakers or braekers. Instead of trying to pressurise the teenager in doing something a more friend than parent type of attitude will do wonders. This is because at this stage of the life, the teenager would trust the parent only if he can expect support. In case he/she finds through trial and error that some acts , the tendency would be to hide the facts. It is therefore necessary that the parents and children especially in the teens have to have a wholesome relationship.
