Advantages: The staff are all angels and worth their weight in gold

Disadvantages: none

My experience with SCBU was fortunately a good one. My daughter is 7 years old now but she was born 10 weeks prematurely. I had pre eclampsia and had to have an emergency C Section. I was asleep for this and when i came round my daughter was in SCBU in an incubator with wires every where. she started off breathing on her own, but later had to have oxygen. we were moved to a different hospital and after 2 days we were able to be moved back to our own local hospital.

as i was in and out of SCBU all the time, I became friendly with the nurses. they are always very nice to you and the most helpful people. the first time i was able to hold my daughter (she was 5 Days old) the nurse was so nice and apreciated how nervous i was because my daughter was so small. same when it came to giving her, her first bath, (she was 5 weeks old) the nurses helped me with that too.

They are also great at answering any questions or any worries you have and they never seem to get annoyed with you and take everything in their stride.

During our 7 and a half weeks there we got quite close and they all came round to say bye before we left, a few even cried (including myself).

My advice to anyone who has to spend time in SCBU is, never be afraid to ask as many questions as you have, no matter how silly you may believe they are. And, Never be afraid to ask for help, there will always be someone there to help you.

Summary: This place may look scary but it is there to help, and I and my family are forever grateful

I had pre-eclampsia and an emenrgency c-section under general anaesthetic too but luckily my baby was only two weeks early. I'm pleased everything worked out so well for you and that you had a positive - if scary - experience in SCBU.
