I live in Northampton and use the three Sure Start Centres local to me, there is one in St James, one in King Heath and lastly there is one in Spencer.

I started using the St James Sure Start when my eldest daughter now four and a half was six weeks old and have contained to use it with my other two children.

Sure Start is aimed at families with children under five.

My local sure starts do a range of different drop in session when you go in to the centre with your child and play. I find these great as they help my little one mix with other child and for me I get some adult conversation. At the drop INS, they have many different activities available for the child to use from the home corner to messy play. In the middle of the session we all sit down for snack and at the end of each session all the member come together to do song time which my children love. Sure Start does not charge for these sessions but do ask for a 30p donation for each child to go towards snacks.

Sure Start also run course for parents to do, and while you do these courses the children are looked after in a crèche. The courses I have done to date include first aid, positive parent, fun at home, maths, English and eating smart. I really love doing theses course and they have really helped my confidence and to mix with other mums. My children love the crèche and it have helped get them ready for starting nursery.

The other things my local Sure Start do are, drop in to see a midwife, breast feeding clinics, action kids, time out crèche, lunch club and family support.

The staff at Sure Start are very friendly and easy to talk to and turn to for help, many of them being local mums themselves

I really do feel me and my children get lots out off our local Sure Start and will continue to use them until my youngest is five.
