Advantages: soooo many as i will go on to tell you in my review!
Disadvantages: people judge you wrongly!
I found out at the age of 16 that i had a health complication that would result eventually in infertility. I was lucky enough to already be in a long term relationship and we decided we werent going to wait and take that chance and to have our children early whilst we still could.
I had my first son at age 17 and just recently had my second son at age 19. being a young parent has brought my attention to all the pros and cons, and in my opinion they are:
Advantages: You have physical youth on your side to help keep up with your little ones, you stand a much bigger chance of seeing your grandchildren/great grandchildren, you won't need a career break later in life, and it is becoming ever easier for adults to enter education and so to start a career when your children start school (i have just completed an access to higher education course and will be starting uni next year), you tend to get just that little bit extra from the maternity services, and you have the ability to prove soooo many people wrong that teen mums are bad mums, which leads me onto the disadvantages.
Disadvantages: the majoirty of people judge you badly before they know you. In my case this included even my doctor who presumed i was a single mum, that i lived at home, that my baby wasn't planned and that i wouldn't breastfeed! i breastfed my first son to 9 months and am currently still feeding my 5 month old, and hope to for over a year. I was privately renting with my partner of two years and they were planned!! I had my fun probably too early in life, but that meant i felt ready to be a parent earlier than most, without feeling like i have missed out.
I am the best mum i could possibly be and my children are happy, healthy and being brought up in a stimulating and intellectual environment, despite our age. Many other young mums are also in my possition, so i would just like to ask people to talk to these young parents before they judge them.
Summary: don't negatively judge young parents, we arent all bad!!

- 12/02/06 I was 20 when I had my first child. I'm 36 now & feel much more tired, so I am pleased I had my 4 kids while I was in my 20s. |

- 11/02/06 People make assumptions all the time, don't they? I don't really know what's wrong with having children young, assuming you are ready for it. I waited till 30, my sister had one at 19 and to be honest I don't know who made a better decision.
It was an interesting look at what is probably less usual experience of teenage pregnancy. You might find it useful to spell check your reviews before posting and try to use capital letter I and at the begging of a sentence as it makes for easier reading.
