I am 18 years old and have a 3 week old son, so yes I am a teenage mummy. I do not currently work and am not planning on starting work straight away. A lot of people reading are probably thinking i'm another teenage mother who had a baby because she is too lazy to work and wants to live off benefits but actually those people are very wrong!

The day I found out I was pregnant was the happiest day of my life, I had been with my boyfriend for 3 years, my baby was loved and very much wanted from that day onwards. We told people our news after our first scan at 13 weeks, we expected them to be just as happy as us, sadly that wasn't the case with everyone. How some people can suggest that you kill your unborn child I will never understand, these comments killed me inside but made me determined to give my child the best possible life.

As I said I don't currently work, but I did up until I was 29 weeks pregnant when I left for maternity leave. But I won't be going back after the standard 6 months because I want to spend as much time as possible with my child. I don't want a childminder seeing my son's first step or hearing his first word I want to! This doesn't mean I will never go back to work but I won't until I feel ready. Neither does it mean I milk the benefits system as my boyfriend has 3 jobs to support us and his name is down in black and white on my son's birth certificate. I am very lucky to have such a wonderful supportive father for my child and he would not have it any other way.

I am fully aware that some young people may have children to claim benefits and so they do not have to work, but this is not always the case. I have been labelled one of these people already, but you should not judge until you know the facts!

Being a mother is one of the hardest yet most rewarding jobs in the world and just because I may be young doesn't mean I can't do it just as well as anybody else!

Summary: I wouldn't change my son for the world!

People are always quick to judge anyone for any reason, it is not until people really understand the situation that they begin to stop judging and start understanding x I bet at 3 weeks he is gorgeous!!!
