The breast feeding debate...

before i was even pregnant let alone had children all i ever knew was that id breast feed when i had kids.

im one of seven children - my mother breast fed us all (what 7!!! yeah i know bless her!) my sister had a baby - she breast fed and i just didnt know any different.

when i was expecting my first baby no body mentioned anything about feeding 'it' until nearing the last 12 weeks and the midwife was helping me write my birth plan, and she asked if i had thought about feeding i said im going to breast feed, i was only 18 and she was shocked, apparently younger mums to be are put off.

when my first daughter was born i fed her straight away - a really weird feeling at first but it didnt take long to learn how and then the pain kicked in.... i will admit it was very painful and there were times when id curl my toes and feel like throwing her out the nearest window (yes it hurt that much!) it did take what seemed like forever but when the cracks had heeled i started feeling much better and started enjoying it. i dont think i could have done it without the support of my mum and sister and friends at that time.

breast feeding in public was at first a bit of an embarressing procedure but i soon got used to it and ignored the stares of horrified people.... my attitude is, if a crying baby needs feeding feed it - why should you let it scream while you find a baby changing/feeding room or go somewhere private because if it was bottle fed then no body would even bat an eyelid. breast feeding is natual and beautiful.

i have just finished breast feeding my third baby.

im not saying it is easy and that i hate people who formula feed, alot of my friends formula feed and i have heard stories and points of view and can see why people wouldnt want to or cant breast feed.

Summary: breast is best but im open minded
