Advantages: Helps in better health, growth and bonding

Disadvantages: none

I am a mother of 15 month old toddler and i still breast feed him. Even though the amount of milk has reduced i think it will be filling for him after taking 3 full meals a day. I think it is the simplest and easiest way to feed the baby.

I have a great affinity for babies and bond with them very easily. So when it came to my own son as for every mother i wanted to provide him the best. I believe that anything natural will be the best thing in the world. So i wanted to have a normal delivery and also wanted to breast feed my baby. I have heard that the colostrum that is secreted before the milk is very good for the baby. Colostrum is high in carbohydrates, protein, and antibodies and low in fat (as human newborns may find fat difficult to digest). It encourages the passing of the baby's first stool. This clears excess bilirubin which can cause jaundice.
But i had to undergo a caesarian section as the baby was not turning down. So i was adamant to give my baby only breastmilk for the first six months because that was only the next natural option i had. But i was not producing any milk. So he was given some glucouse water and lactogen which i was against but my mother and mother in law both were trying to convince me.

Then came the miracle. I talked to my doctor about this and he prescribed me a capsule lactarin twice daily. Since the medicine just stimulates the glands and muscles supporting it to produce milk there is no bad effect for it. So i was glad to take it.Milk started to flow after two days and i was so happy, but my son was not. By that time he was accustomed to spoon and was not at all sucking the breast. Then after lots of struggle, after one whole day and a half he started sucking. After that till six months i gave him just breast milk and he used to be well above average weight and health. I strongly believe that since i breast fed him, i have laid a strong foundation to his health and well being.
So taking the pill has no side effect and it helped me to become a happy mum and i strongly recommend those who can breast feed your baby do that until he or she wants it.

Summary: Breastfeeding is the simplest and natural way to feed a baby.

I'm glad it worked for you eventually; there are some babies, though, who simply never take to breast-feeding.
