Why I did'nt breastfeed my baby. (The Breastfeeding Debate)

Advantages: Breastmilk is great for baby

Disadvantages: Formula can be just as good!

When I was pregnant with my son, who is 6 months old now, I felt an enormous pressure to breastfeed. It came from doctors, midwives, books, magazines...even total strangers!

I know of all the benefits of breast milk, and yes i agree that breast probably is best, however i didn't breastfeed, and i don't think it is the right choice for everyone.

Throughout my pregnancy, i intended to give it a try as i expected it to feel natural when he arrived - but it did not feel natural to me. He was a big (10 pounds), heavy, hungry baby - who was almost constantly wanting fed. After just 1 week I was extremely tired of just being a feeding machine and switched to bottles. Also, switching to bottles gave dad a chance to help out and bond more with the baby.

For me that was definatly the right decision as me and my baby get out and about a lot, and i wouldn't feel comfortable breastfeeding in public - or even in front of friends - I have no problem when other people do, however i'm quite shy and would not feel right. I also felt that i wanted to enjoy my time with my new son rather than it feel like a chore.

He is 6 months old now, and is a healthy, happy baby. I don't think drinking formula has harmed him in any way. If i was to have another baby, yes i would consider breastfeeding but if i switch to bottles i will not feel guilty about it.

Summary: Breast is best but not for everyone!
