Advantages: free, encourages bond - the list seems endless

Disadvantages: it is better to have a full baby and a happy mum

Being pregnant i spent alot of time 'researching' what was instore for me after the birth, i went to the ante-natal appointments and classes - one of which was dedicated to breast feeding. The class was for 3 and a half hours and covered all of the merits of feeding a baby yourself. It was obviously very biased towards breast feeding and showed it in a fantastic light. I came out of here with the view that i needed to feed my child myself - before this i thought that i would give it a try and see what happened but this and other pressures made me think that anything else was second best!

I didn't find feeding that easy! my child lost a lot of weight and i was advised to give her a bottle by the midwife. I did so and eventually she was not able to latch on properly. I got all bothered about it and cried lots but in the end she was being fed and that is what is important.

When you have just had a baby and are sleep deprived it is hard to make decisions however i am pleased that i gave her a bottle - she wasn't getting enough milk from me so even if it wasn't the best it was better then what i was making for her!

I think people should try but also don't feel like a failure if it doesn't work it is better to have a full baby and a happy mum

Summary: it is better to have a full baby and a happy mum

It doesn't sound like you had much help with trying to breastfeed before the advice to give a bottle.
