Advantages: Hassle free, Cheap, Nutritious

Disadvantages: can be a slight problem if you are shy

If you are lucky enough to be able to breastfeed, you are without giving your baby the best start in life. Some women find it hard to breastfeed, some don't want to, but those lucky ones who can all i can advise is do it.

If you do find it hard, most difficulties can be overcome, with a little patience. When i first began to breastfeed for the first time i got sore and cracked nipples. feeding was an absolute nightmare, worse than child birth, but i was advised by my midwife to perservere, and to feed, because feeding was the only way for it to heal (I was feeding 50% breast & 50% bottle). all i can say it was hell and i had a few tears, but the breasts did heal within 2 days of 100% breastfeeding. So i am glad i coped with the pain, because i then went on to feed my son, hassle free for a whole year.

You might also find it hard to breastfeed in certain positions, with my son, i could only successfully breastfeed lying down, whereas with my daughter i could breastfeed sitting up. Technique does seem to come along with experience. my daughter was hassle free, but feeding my son was hard sitting up(don't ask me why).

Breast milk contains all your baby needs to grow, and even if you only feed for the first month or so, you pass on antibodies, which will help them fight off infections as they grow older.

So, just think, no sterilising, you can lie down whilst feeding, read that book, or even do a crossword!! Also, breastfeeding strengthens stomach muscles (they contract whilst the baby is feeding), and also helps you lose weight.

I have two children. I breastfed them both until they were one year old. I found it hassle free (bar my troubles in the begining with my son), cheap, and helped me lose that extra weight.

You were very very lucky. I desperately wanted to breastfeed but couldn't for a variety of reasons (wrote an op about it ages ago which I will update soon). 14 months on and I still feel upset about having to bottle feed. I'm pleased you could do it but wouldn't want new mums-to-be to read this and think it's a piece of cake.
