Advantages: It's natural

Disadvantages: none

Until recently I found breastfeeding in public incredibly difficult to handle. This is not an uncommon reaction from blokes, and I have heard of some extreme cases where women have been thrown out of pubs, or shunned by those around them.

The only way I found to deal with it was to consider the options the mother has. Many babies need to be fed every half an hour, and unless the mothers never leave the house, they are going to be caught in a public place fairly often. Think about it – it is totally unrealistic for women to have to lock themselves away to feed their baby. Breastfeeding is, after all, one of the most natural things in the world!

The problem with breastfeeding in public is in the eyes of the men (and a handful of women) who believe that a mother feeding her baby is akin to public nakedness. However, I have seen many women breastfeeding and have yet to glimpse anything I shouldn’t!

I really do hope that the younger generation will learn to quickly accept the sight of breastfeeding in public, and see it as normal. Not something to laugh at, ridicule or attack.

Deal with it guys!

It can be done quite subtley anyway, its not as if you are suddenly whopping your boobs out like a page-3 girl. You can't usually see anything as the baby's head is in the way.

geordieger - Surely you mean 'sexual' remarks rather than 'sexist'? Breast-feeding will always be a female-only occupation. ;)

I can't get my twin pram in the door of the baby feeding room of my local shopping centre, so I just do it where ever I can. Last week I did Tescos shopping while pushing my toddler in the pram and feeding bubs without anyone realising, lol. Good op, glad you feel like that and thanks for spreading the word.

I breastfed my two daughters. I was sick and tired of middle aged men making sexist remarks. Guys should realise the first reason that women have breasts-to feed their children.
