Advantages: Lots of information about birth

Disadvantages: Have to give up some time

Why not?? In short there are two of you having this baby and if the mum to be wants to go why shouldn't he?

I asked my husband if he found the ones we went to useful / was he glad he went etc before I wrote this review. His response was yes he was glad he went, not necessarily because of the pearls of wisdom dispensed by the midwife who ran the class, although he did say that was useful as well, but to see other people in the same boat as us.

I think as the mum to be I'd been immensing myself gradually in the world of ante natal care and meeting other pregnant ladies, and generally getting used to the idea of birth, whereas he had been at work carrying on as normal.

We attended two, free two hour classes (7-9pm) at our local hospital at about 30 weeks. There were 5 other couples. We also went back for a look around the delivery suite. I think it gives dads a good crash course on birth and the ability to get to hear other dads ask questions that they might want to ask. It also outlines what their role can be, rather than just focusing on the mum.

I also attended a breast feeding class with 20 other women, but only 2 dads attended that one! I told my husband he didn't need to do that one.

I was glad he went because the midwifes could do the explaining about his role so it didn't sound like me nagging him!

The classes at the hospital weren't for tree hugging, sandal wearing, beard growing dads - just the average run of the mill bloke. If the dad to be is oen of these maybe he would want to sign up for the fee paying, more intensive NCT classes.

Give it a go - you've got nothing to lose!

Summary: Ante natal class of mums and dads to be
