When my wife and I found out she was pregnant with my first son she booked us into some antenatal classes at our local hospital. I was really looking forward to them and couldn't wait for them to start. I had visions in my mind of it being like that episode in 'Friends' where Ross and Susan go through the breathing techniques and have a dolly to hold except it would be me and my wife not him and my lesbian lover!!

We had three 2 hour classes and this imcluded a tour around the maternity ward. I found them extremely valuable. I didn't have the time or inclination to read pregnancy magazines at the end of a hectic day at work, so going to the classes meant that I had some allocated time dedicated to the whole labor and birth process and I had to sit and listen whereas if we sat at home and talked through stuff then we may not have necessarily made time for it.

At the classes we talked about how to care for a newborn which was all new to me because I had never been around a tiny baby before.

Over all I think there are many benefits to dad's attending antenatal classes after all they were part of the baby making process!
